What happens at the 6 week check?

Title says it all - what can I expect to happen at the 6 week check after having Samuel?

I really don't like going in to doctors appointments when things are unknown... I'm particularly wondering if I should tidy up downstairs?

Also, DH will be taking the morning off to mind Samuel. Is it expected that I have Samuel there with me, or is it ok for DH and Samuel to wait at home?

    I feel so clueless!

My 6 weeks check I had pap smear, wound checked (c/s) and just a quick chat re the birth, contraception options and did I have any questions.

DS was only with me 1 because DH was at work and 2 to see recepionist as she would ahve been upset if she didnt Lol

Hmmm... vaginal delivery, but with stitches - so I guess that means I'm dropping my pants at this one. Ugh!

As for contraception options... seems rather laughable considering my history! But then I will be starting some seriously nasty arthritis medication that you can't even handle while pregnant or breastfeeding, so perhaps getting myself sorted in that area would be a good plan.

    Thanks, feeb.

    no worries!!

always a worry if they are going to check down there! They do only do pap smear if you have stopped bleeding thought as if not, can give in conclusive results

It has happened many times before that people take a lot of intervetion to conceive and then the majically conceive naturally next time!! So never say never!!!

But certainly if meds that nasty you want to be careful JUST IN CASE

good lluck with getting meds sorted and enjoy Samuel

I have an appointment with Samuel's paediatrician the next day, so I don't really need to get him checked at that appointment... As much as I'm thinking it could be easier to leave him at home with DH, I'm not sure I could do it! When it comes to pap smears - my last one was just before I fell pregnant with Samuel, so I've got the perfect excuse to decline that one.

As for the magical conceptions after IVF - not in this house! Being pregnant may have sorted my PCOS slightly, but it's not going to fix DH's mutant sperm. But yes, the new drug is so seriously scary that I'm not even going to take the risk.

I expected a papsmear at my 6 week check up, but he doesn't do them so soon after having your baby vaginally. I was suprised. I didn't know that.

He just felt my tummy to make sure my uterus was shrinking nicely and all that jazz. BP, etc. I got a stitch aswell, so he asked about that, but it'd already gone so I don't know if he would have checked that out or not if it was still there.

He's also a GP so he checked over DS2 aswell. Nothing exciting.
Asked my questions, he asked his. Bleeding, Contraception, etc etc etc.

Good luck with your 6 week check and your babyboys 6week check too.

DD was with me only because DF was working, i also was due for a pap smear, doc really just just checked that my uterus was where it should be, which i was fine with until i started bleeding again(stopped at four weeks post partum) i guess all the pushing and poking dislodged some.
I didnt have stiches from my vaginal birth but i guess if you do they'll be checking to see if that has healed nicely.
"clean up"down there if u want, but as i say to friends who refuse to have pap smears and things of that sort, they've seen it all before and dont really care!

I went to my GP for my 6 week check (he's an obstetrician-GP). It wasnt very eventful. He just asked if I had a vaginal or a c/s birth, if I'm still having any blood loss and if I was breastfeeding or not. I asked him to look at my stitches (from where I tore) because OMG they were so uncomfortable. He asked me if I wanted to talk about contraception and he offfered a pap smear but I decided to go back a few months later for it as I just couldnt bear to have anyone touch there just yet.

He also did Claires check as well. He just did the standard things - listened to her heart, checked her reflexes, and a few other things. She had a clicky hip when she was born so I asked him to have a look at that. He couldnt hear a click when he checked so we didnt worry about doing anything.

I'm sure there was possibly more, but all I remember is that the appointment was really not that long.
