OK, I now feel bad for fretting AF is still AWOL after almost 9 months! Sadly, yes, the first month isn't unheard of for a fully breastfed bub... just means you're more fertile and your body thinks you're more capable at being a mother than mine does!

Mine came back after 9 months. I wasn't surprised to see dear old AF - we were on holidays, so OF COURSE she'd come back to visit

I was devastated first time around as i felt as though my body had only just recovered completely from DD"s birth just to have AF return less than a week later! So imagine my utter delight when I got to 4 months exactly post birth the second time!! I did have 2 whole weeks of horrid tummy leading up to AF's return but hey! You can't have it all! LOL!!

AF is on her way..... I know over 12 months should be fantastic, but she's horrid!!! I feel like I'm having contractions today.... back pain everything in full force. I never had period pain in my belly always in my back, but sometimes bad enough to vomit before kids (maybe touch of endo?) and I would bleed for over a week heavily. After Matilda it was 4 months later & was mild now after Jovie I've been having bad cramps all day and she's yet to arrive but I know she's coming. Jovie still is breastfeeding 4-6 times a day so that has helped keep her away but

Well, I am relieved to hear from others who have had AF return so soon, even when breast feeding. I was starting to think something was wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's just my period returning. I had about 1 week of light bleeding post-partum, and then 4 weeks, or so, of occasional spotting, and now all of a sudden, moderate dark red bleeding, without clots or cramping, which started three days ago. Emily was 5 1/2 weeks old that day and is fully breast-fed. (8-10 times a day!) Guess I don't get a break. Although, I've never had a regular cycle, so maybe I'll get a nice long break until round 2.
I'm curious, though, about what Ryn said about being more fertile - I really don't think I am that fertile. We've been married for 6 1/2 years, and we've never used birth control or tried to prevent a pregnancy, and we have three children, all about two years apart. (4yrs old, 2 yrs old, and 6wks old.) Is that something that you've read/heard about Ryn, or just a guess as to why some women have a period sooner than others post-partum?

I too am pleased to hear that getting AF so soon after birth is not unheard of... I heard lots about not getting it back for months and months especially if breastfeeding. My lochia stopped at about 2 weeks and AF came on day 29 (my usual cycle) - Initially I thought it was lochia returning, but it was bright red and very heavy with bad cramps and back pain... Hopefully the cramps aren't an ongoing thing with AF, I never used to have them pre-pregnancy. I am breastfeeding and thought It was a sure thing not to get AF back for a year or so!

Aurelia is fully breastfed but I had my first period just last month, on the 19th. Now i'm having random bleeding that could be a period (probably is) or maaaybe implantation bleeding (i hope but probably not :P)

Ooooh, I can finally answer this - 11 months. 2 weeks after I dropped to just 2 feeds a day (that little eggie must have been raring to go!).

It was not painful (at last!) and as light as my pre-preg periods.

I think it's AF. My DD is 7 weeks old. I stopped bleeding after birth about 2 weeks ago, at the same time I got an implanon put in. I started bleeding again a couple of days ago, almost 2 weeks since I had the implanon put in. Does that sound like AF? I breastfeed almost all the time, she gets a bottle once a day unless we're out, then she may get more formula if we are somewhere I'm not confident enough to BF.

3 and half months of bliss with no AF... I have heard that it can return if you go more than 4 hours without a BF or expressing?? That seemed true enough with me...

mine came back after Paige started weaning at about 9 months and we started TTC when she was 12mths, it was the biggest break from AF I've ever had.
