tee he he, Im persistent!!
Thanks for that info, will check it out now...
4 months exactly with Charlie.....I got AF back for the first time on Sunday........so 4 months to the day. He has been sleeping through consistently for a few weeks, so no dount that is what has bought AF back.
So I have my first AF since he was born at the moment, and to be honest, it is a SHOCKER...........really crampy and painful and achey.....and heavy. Yuk.
Now I need to start charting again............
hey Lucy, so you're trying again? I guess Im not the only one then....
I STILL haven't got AF yet, have stopped BF almost 6 weeks ago....should I do a test??
Wow Bel, worth a try - you never know! Our bodies are so unique we never know if we've started ovulating again or not. Have you noticed any fertile mucus since his birth?
only 2 weeks(ish) ago and took advantage of it, but with my past history, I just didn't even think anything could really happen....
I don't know, perhaps its wishful thinking...
How long should it be after you stop BF before AF comes back? Like I said its been almost 6 weeks since I stopped completely and I was weaning for about 3-4 weeks prior to that.
I didn't notice any fertile CM before because to be honest, I wasn't really looking for it, so it could have been there...
Bel, I am just charting at the moment to try & figure out my cycle again. Not sure about the TTC for number 3. We are in negotiations still!! I have put my ticker up to try & see how I feel about TTC # 3!
Best of luck to you though!
Lucy, I Just had a quick look at Charlie's website, my god, he's absolutely adorable!! soooo cute!!!
Oooh, thanks Bel. I think so too, I am very much in love with my boy!
I have just had a look at your website too....Coby is adorable! The ones of you and him together are heartmelting!
I saw your ticker Lucy and was wondering what you guys were up to!! Ooooeer!!!
Hey Kate, I guess, because some women can get pg while exclusively BF...
I also have a question for all you lovelies, I STILL haven't got AF yet, its been seriously nearly 7 weeks since stopping BF completely and I was weaning for about 3 weeks prior to that.
I had a filthy migraine last night and am wondering if thats a massive shift in my hormones....
What do you all think? Should I test myself?
Yes you can. I got pregnant breastfeeding Marisa and I did it observing my CM. Eventually the hormones are going to break through and you will ovulate - the threshold is different for every woman. Check out the article on the main site, Your Period & Ovulation After Baby, in the post natal section for more info. :)
Baby Trevor was 1 month old when my AF started. He was on the bottle from the very beginning and he was delivered by c/s.

Devin is 3 months and there is no sign of my AF. My doctor prescibed the pill but how do I know when to take it? Usually I take it on the first Sunday of my period, but does this mean I have to wait till it shows up????
Indiana if you are breastfeeding..like I am..I was told to take it straight away...if its the mini pill you are talking about.
Jo
Thanks Jo...... =D>
With ds it didn't return until he had stopped breastfeeding at 14.5 months. Then I got pregnant that cycle. Dd is 6 months old, breastfeeding a lot and no sign of periods yet. So I have had only one since ds was conceived in Sep 02, which is fine by me as I found them very painful and unpleasant. Don't know whether ovulated before getting a period as I never got any pain at ovulation time.
With Lindsay, 6wks - Erin 8wks - Paige 6wks, then it dissapeared for 3months, making mummy very worried

Ha! I knew it, I am ovulating. I found an ovulation test I had from a promotional package a PR company sent me so I thought I would give it a whirl when I spotted any fertile CM next. Mind you I have noticed it every month for ages but actually got off my butt to try it today. Still no period though and Elijah is 15 months, this is every woman's dream isn't it?! I suppose, not so much if you are not trying - just a warning to watch out ;) Almost 4.5 years without a period! I love it but it is starting to feel weird. What would I do if I got one again? I wouldn't know what to do with myself! ROFL!
My dd is almost three months old. I noticed fertile CM when she was 6 weeks old, did an ovulation test and it was positive. There was no period two weeks later. Then last week, I noticed a day of fertile CM and did another OPK and got a positive again..I wonder if AF will come now :-k . I am breastfeeding about 90% of the time, she gets a bottle of formula for one of her feedings each day when I have a neighbor watch her while I go to my older dd's school to help out for a few hours. I would like to have one more baby but I must say this ovulating without a period has me scared that I may have asherman's syndrome (intrauterine adhesions). I had two post-partum d&c's for retained placenta by the time she was ten days old. I don't like what I've read on the internet about Asherman's 8-[ The main cause is post-partum curettage and the chief complaint is secondary amenorrhea even though ovulating. My question is, is it normal to ovulate and not menstruate when you are breastfeeding? My first three daughters are adopted (at birth), so this is my first experience giving birth and breastfeeding (though we were never infertile, just chose to adopt because we had the opportunity to). I have found very little information on the internet about ovulation not followed by a period except when associated with Asherman's. So, ladies..experts, is it something that you have all experienced? Please tell me I'm still "normal" [-o<
If you are worried it's worth seeing your doctor to ease your mind. If you read the previous posts you will see that I didn't get my period while breastfeeding at all - I haven't had a proper period for over four and a half years. My first was breastfed until she was a little over two, during that time I had some very light spotting for a day and that was it. I fell pregnant that cycle and my second born is now 16 months and again, no period while breastfeeding. But I know I am ovulating - obviously you have to in order to get pregnant!!!
Every woman's hormone levels are so different you can never tell when you will start menstruating again. It's only been three months for you so I wouldn't stress, but like I say, see your doctor so you can have the official word that everything is fine.
My4girls..
Firstly WELCOME to Belly Belly!!
My DD#2 is almost 5 months old & I have fertile CM & am ovulating but not had a period at all since her birth...!
I am also giving a bottle of formula once a day (before bed) I work fulltime & express during the day for her feeds the following day (I hope that makes sense)...
Maybe we are the lucky ones whom havent got our periods back since biurth, as we are feeding, I know some ladies get their period regardless of breast feeding...
Not sure if that helps your Q or not...
But I guess I am in similar situation...
I hope you get the naswers you ned...
Thanks ladies for both the warm welcome and the helpful responses! I was just worried because everything I have read on the internet says that a period always follows ovulation. I'm so glad to see that others ovulate without menstruation while breastfeeding. I called my OB (I am in the states) and they told me that I would have to completely wean and then wait six months without a period before they would investigate. Aparently Asherman's is rare, but I'm a worrier  The internet is such a mixed blessing ](*,) I would love to go 4.5 years without a period and still be healthy, you are very lucky! Reading some of the previous posts it was hard for me to always determine who was breastfeeding most of the time when AF returned. Now would be a good time to have a crystal ball to see when/if AF comes back
I have also had a day of pink tinged spotting, but only when wiping (sorry if TMI), I am guessing that is when AF is due & then nothing again, I am trying to talk DH into 1 more!!!!
Best wishes!
With DD, I got AF back at 10 months :D
With DS, I got AF at 5 WEEKS!!!! I am fully BFing so I thought I would get about the same time as after DD but not to be! :(
Oh well..... we want another one close so lets hope I start to ovulate soon! :D
Well I can finally post in here as AF has just arrived! 13 months after giving birth! Eeekkk! I had almost forgotten what it was like.
Not my article HERE ;) And definitely not in my experience ;):
Still waiting, I guess it's been almost five years now, since Marisa was conceived!
Yes it is very confusing with all the info out there. I have been getting CM for a while now and around the same time each month it's been fertile. So I used an OPK and it wasn't positive but faint... I didn't have another to test the next day but I think I will keep my legs crossed anyways ;) Not hoping for any surprises atm ;)
WOOHOO! AF is finally back, 11 months and 6 days after Kynan was born. About time!!
im still waiting too.
nikki
Im still waiting too...not complaining though...cant say I miss the witch ;)
Jo
Mine came back about 7 weeks after I stopped breastfeeding. Emily was nearly three months old when we stopped bfing.
Well, it looks like 6 weeks post birth for me... :(
I am breastfeeding approx every 3 hours, sometimes she goes 4 and once she went 6, but ONCE! I was worried as DTD seemed to start the bleeding but now my usual AF signs have appeared and the bleeding is slightly heavier and i am resigned to it being the return of the dreaded witch! At least i don't suffer too much - after labour pains my AF cramps make me LAUGH!
THis would explain the tendency in my family to concieve easily - Mum had her first 3 kids in 3 years! SHe got PG within 3 months both times, while fully breastfeeding! Ho hum - i was hoping for a few more months off as well!
Does anyone else panic a bit at the blood? It's just that after the whole PG of not wanting to see blood (after 2 M/C's) and then the blood after birth being associated with this massive event, the birth of my child, it feels like AF is no longer a normal part of my life and when i see the blood i have to remind myself that it's a good sign, my body is healthy! This is excusable except that with my poor confuddled breastfeeding brain, i panic EVERY time i go to the loo! LOL!
Hana
Almost 6 months after Maddy and waiting for AF to return. Why is it that when I should be enjoying her long service leave, I keep waiting for her to return? *slaps forehead* We're not planning to TTC for another 2 years so I'm in no hurry to return to fertile land just yet! *LOL* (Even if you can be ovulating without AF around)
Well guys, my turn to bow out. After five years, apart from 1-2 days of very, very light spotting between weaning Ris and falling preg with Elijah, the night weaning has gotten me! It's not much but a bit more than spotting. Wonder what will happen next month. Far out, I feel like a newbie again! :)
My son has been fully breastfed since the day he was born 7 months ago and I got my AF 3 months after he was born :'( and got it again another 3 months later! Its weird how everyones body works differently.
Hello,
I am in the same position. I got period back after 7 weeks, and am now 4 days late (if my normal cycle is still the same).
Have not done a test yet. Will do after a week. I am exclusively breast feeding so thought i could not get pregnant???
Any advice??
Josh was born June 26th i bleeded for 6 weeks now he is 8 weeks still no A/F????
Well the honeymoon is over! 10 weeks to the day and it's back, dam! And I've been exclusively breastfeeding the whole time, what a bummer!
Well almost 8 months to the day, AF returned. Not too bad, in fact I've now had 2 cycles since and *touchwood* I'm not having any cramps like I used to pre-baby. Hopefully it'll stay like that. Probably a tinge heavier than it used to be for the first couple of days, but I can handle that.
