I discussed it with GP first - from memory (PMSL it was back in 2002!!) I either had it implanted just before/after a period or had to take a pg test to ensure I wasn't pg when they implanted it... but I can't for the life of me remember which one it was. The second one they did same day as removing the first one.

I just did a quick google search and it says that it depends on whether you are currently using another method of birth control but that you should not be pg when it is inserted... so if you are using the pill or something else they might do it the day you go in but if they have no history they may do a pg test just to be sure.
