First time I tried a tampon I couldn't get the blasted thing out. Was at SeaWorld for the day and ended up seeing the nurse there for help

I always worry that my fingernails will cut me when I use my fingers to insert. I do mean to get a cup though.
Might just stay with applicator ones

Have you tried sponges (the latex ones)? I used to use them in my late teens and found them WAY easier to get in/out than tampons...and more comfortable...I am a shamless tampon hater :-D

Sponges? Never heard of them. I assume you don't mean Chux?

    LOL, uh, no.

And not a dead sea sponge either.

I honestly can't remember the brand names, it's been years since I used one...but they're available at chemists, online and at sexual health organisations...made from PU, I think.

Nice and smooth and soft. No need for lube to insert or anything.

I used tampons for years - hate pads, can't stand having that in my undies. But then I got a cup.... it's sooooo much better.
    Get a cup.

Wouldn't a cup be harder to insert than a tampon?

No not really once you have the fold technique down, it slides in easier as it doesn't dry you out as you push it in like a tampon does.
