God, how embarrassing for you! I flushed too. I dont use them anymore, but when I did I never understoond how (in your own or someone else's house) you're supposed to walk out of the toilet with one wrapped up without anyone noticing. I personally would like to try these menstrual cups (if I have the balls to insert one!) for this particular reason.
Stoopid tampons!
ps. I know Captain Planet hates me for flushing

My dad is a plumber and that's the first thing I was taught, do not flush tampons. It's amazing how many times he had to use the snake to unclog toilets and they were nearly the number 1 reason for blockages.
Nappy sacks can be handy for disposing pads and tampons if concerned about smell. I have a heap left over from the girls. I always make sure I have one with any change of pad/tampon.
You just clean out the bin more frequently during that time.
I was a flusher when I was really young (around the same time the dinosaurs became extinct but the state of the environment didn't seem to concern anyone but the "raging Greenies").
I've been a converted wrap and throw girl for many years since.
Wow - my mother always told me to flush. Seeing tampons on the beach that have gone through the system, come out and come to shore is quite normal - although I wish it weren't! Friends have commented on it, but no-one has commented that they shouldn't be flushed.
However, I'm a cup girl now so it isn't an issue and hasn't been for years.
Always thrown. W have a little bin in the toilet and I've never noticed it getting smelly, I just empty it more often. Also I've never had a problem walking out of the toilet and throwing it discretely.
Always wrapped and threw them out. And you just found out the hard way why you shouldn't flush them!
I should add - if you live in a rental property and you flush tampons and the drains become blocked from them, you will likely be required to pay for the plumber.
Goodness, I didn't know anyone actually flushed them! I seriously thought everyone knew not to and they only put the warning on the packet because they legally had to, like a "this product contains nuts" thing on a pack of peanuts
Tampons are easy to conceal and take to the bin wrapped in loo paper. Pads I wrap in paper and stuff into an empty roll
Sent from my iPhone so forgive the speelung misstacks
I wrap in toilet paper and put in the bin. I used to live in a house that had a septic tank so you couldn't flush them, it's just stuck in my head.
I also have a box of sanitary bags in my bathroom that I can put liners/tampons in and knot up so no odour problem or little people problem who may have a habit of going through the bin. They are like nappy bags, only smaller.
I was a flusher, never knew it too. Guess thats what happens when you dont start af til later in life, people forget to tell you these things. better start wrapping and binning when af starts back again, i too dont want a blocked loo, how embarassing.
My BFF was in a family of 4 girls and a plumber father so I learnt from them definitely NO flushing. we have had to get a plumber to put the "snake" down our pipes recently as they have tree roots in them. So the toilet paper gets caught in the tree roots and everything "backs up" gross - had to give DD a lecture about using too much toilet paper!
