Have been given an emergency appt with the private hospital tomorrow - 4pm to talk about what they will do to me - then the procedure will happen Thursday first thing in the morning ...

Has anyone had a D&C and can walk me through it please - my first miscarriage was a natural complete and no D&C was necessary .... I'm not worried just wanting to prepare myself mentally as much as I can...

firstly can I say so so so sorry about what you are going through... its such a hard process to deal with...

I have had 3 miscarriages this year, first was natural and the last two resulted in needing a D&C...

My first D&C was in a public hospital, and the second was done in private with the ob that I am currently seeing. The two were different so I will go through each of them with you... I will leave out the emotions because I am still trying to come to terms with my loses and you don’t need my emotions when you are going through a horrible time as it is.... so I will be as blunt as I can.

when it was through the public system I was admitted in the morning, given a tablet to put under my tongue to open up my cervix so they can put the 'hose like' object in and suction the contents out (its horrible thing to think of, but its the only way to explain it.) I was then brought into theatre. I was put under and then the next thing I knew I was awake and my dear baby was gone. But I felt no pain, went to the toilet straight after and no pain there either. You bleed like a period for about a week and then slowly your cervix will contract back which causes a little bit of pain but not much and you will feel like you basically have a period.

The second one my cervix was not dilated, no tablet was given to me and he also used a catheter when in the first it wasn't used (I have no idea why) and this time it was painful afterwards, to go to the toilet and just in general. I didn’t bleed a lot after this one though... but I did get an infection which I feel was from the procedure being done differently.

If you can, ask for the tablet to open your cervix, I feel it is less painful this way. and the only thing I can say for D&C is that it is done and over with, the last thing you want is waiting and feeling pregnant when your baby is gone... I had to go through that because I did try with the third one to have the miscarriage naturally but my body wouldn't let go... I was 12 weeks in the end and still not showing signs of miscarriage. No bleeding nothing... so sometimes its the only thing you can do.... DO NOT be hard on yourself... this is not the time for that....

again I am so sorry for your loss.... sending you massive hugs x

I'm so sorry your bubba couldn't stay. I have only had natural m/c - my body knew all 5 times to m/c naturally, so no D&C was needed.

HPL, I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't say you are not strong enough - you've been going through this for two weeks, that shows massive strength in my book.

I know, sadly, some of the pain you are going through... I'll hold your hand gently from the side and we can stare into space blankly together.

OP i think this pains me more to say having read your wonderful post. i think i will still need your hand to stare into nothingness though.

We went through the public system with our ultrasounds and were told by the tech and the radiologist that we had ' no convincing evidence of a vaiable pregnancy' which means no baby dead baby you have miscarried you will need a D & C....

We are devastated of course our world has come crashing down - we started to mourn - we go o my GP he confirms what we know - need a D & C - we want it done ASAP as i cant bare the thought... So we go private.

Private appt with Ob this arvo at 2pm - he reads the results - he explains he is not comfortable with them - wants to do these own tests - no happy about it as i dont want to see a black space - but happy he is being so pro-active - DF cant come in to the scan as he is too upset n not wanting to see nothing also - this i 100% completely understand. I lay down do my thing - on the bed - this time legs up in stirups - never done this before uite bizarre...

My actually OB does the ultrasound - as he is looking i start thinking to myself - WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!! WHAT THE F CAN I SEE - after only a few seconds my OB turns to me and says can you see that?- UM HELL YES I CAN SEE THAT WFT? - he then proceeds to tell me how he can see a yolk sac and an embryo and fetal pole (the start of) - WTF WTF WTF WTF - he then tells me how angry he is that a radioligist tech told me that i was not pregnant and that it was not viable - becuase as you can clearly see you have a live baby growing strongly!!!

WTF WTF WTF - I have been mourning for 2 weeks as I kept getting told not good not good - no viable pregnancy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have every emotion you could think of everyone simgle one - my DF has no words he is lost for words - we are so angry and confused we dont know what to think.

What if we had gone public - they would have not double checked the scan and i would have had a D&C for NO REASON!!!!! THIS IS A VIABLE PREGNANCY ! My OB said taking my hisotry into account he couldnt be happier with how things are progressin!!

So we had bloods taken and will have another ultrasound on thursday WITH HIM and he has guaranteed me a hear beat! ( obviously not guaranteed but you know - he said it is looking great)

I really need to know if this happens? could i have a live baby til 40wks? could this bbay stick????

I am so confused right now i want to be happy but the thing is i culd be right back to 3 days ago anytime from now - we are in limbo again - i have been given hope again and tht hope scares teh sh*t out of me!!

    HELP!!!

OMG, I can't even imagine the rollercoaster of emotions you and your DF have been going through. Please don't think for a second you are weak, no matter what happens. You are exceptionally strong

I really hope everything goes well with your ultrasound and you get to see that little heartbeat.
