    Post Devasted

1 week ago today, I had the perfect day. I had lunch with some friends and met my Mum & sister for some shopping afterwards. I have a son that turned 1 on Sat. and I was 16.5 weeks pregnant. My husband and I couldn't have been happier. When I got back to my Mum's house I noticed that I had slight bleeding. Then came almighty cramps. I was rushed to hospital where I had to endure 4 hours of labour and then 45 mins of "pushing", all the while knowing that my baby had died. I didn't need any scans to tell me, a Mum's instinst is the best knowledge anyone could ask for. I couldn't have been more scared in my life. Trying to cope with the pain while trying to understand why this was happening to us! At about 8:45pm, I felt an almighty "gush" and it was all over. I hadn't experienced labour with my first son as I had a C-section at 37.5 weeks due to medical problems (not related in this pregnancy). But i knew ever second what was happening. I then had to go for an emergency D & C as I had massive blood loss and was close to a transfusion.

I am a week past this. I can not begin to understand why it happened to me. Our doctor said that genetics of the baby was not right. I understand the medical reasons behind this, but emotional reasons I am struggling so much to grasp.

I am writing this to help other women out there who have & will go thru this. I found out some very interesting facts about the first 16 weeks of pregnancy that doctors neglect to tell women these days. At every 4 weeks (week 4, 8, 12 then 16) the body lets out a estrogen burst which genetically "challenges" the baby. So if there is something genetically wrong with the baby, it wwill abort itself at these stages. So the actual "safe" time for a pregnancy is 17 weeks not 12 weeks as most people are lead to believe (I did too!). So if you are in the early stage of your pregnancy, ask about this. I am not only dealing with my loss but also the fact that everyone knew of our pregnancy and subsequent loss.

If there are any women who have gone thru this, I would love some advice how to deal with it..

So sorry for your loss, just wanted to offer you big hugs at this time. It must have been a huge shock for you. Give yourself time to grieve. May your little one rest in peace.

    Regards,
