Second miscarriage - D&C with retained placenta

Hi all - this is my second miscarriage. This time my 12 week scan showed no heartbeat. I was devastated though part of me was expecting this. The first time, I waited a couple of weeks but did not miscarry normally so had a D&C. This time, I wanted one straight away to get it over with. However, two weeks after the D&C, I am still bleeding heavily even after a week of two types of antibiotics.

I had a scan today and it showed quite a large amount of retained tissue and the radiologist suggested that I may need another D&C since antibiotics have not managed it.

I really don't think that I can handle that. This whole thing has been so heartbreaking - the ongoing physical issues are not helping. In the meantime, I am trying to get on with my job as normal but have needed to take so much time off with the op and heavy bleeding and now for scans, I feel like things are just unravelling and all I want to do is cry.

Has anyone else had retained tissue and what have they done to treat it?

I know how you feel, I had the same thing happen to me last year - I think the best thing you can do is have the D&C again - once the bleeding is under control and your body starts to heal it is a lot easier to heal yourself emotionally. Good Luck

sorry to hear you have had to go through another m/c it must be so heartbreaking for you i have never had a d/c as i had to give birth to my angel so cant help you on that but i think from what nessa said it sounds like you should have it done to be safe as you dont want it to turn into anything more serious. i think you shouldnt be working i think you should be resting and giving your body and you mind time to heal and grieve is there anyway you can get signed off work by your gp as i think work probably isnt helping things i hope that you get things sorted out let me no how you get on take care of yourself and if anytime you need to cry just cry its the best way never hold in the tears sending you a big .

    ljv,

I am so very sorry to hear about all you have had to go through.
I am currently waiting to MC,have not had one before so therefore am no help but it does sound to me like the other ladies said that you need to get it seen to. I can totally relate to the work issues though,it's so hard to take all the time off but you know you need to look after yourself and rest and get over all this before you can take everything else on.Be kind to yourself,
    hugs,
    Claire

    Hi ljv
I agree with the other ladies - get the D&C done so you can get better.
Plus like Munchy said try and get time off (if you have hols /sick days oweing) The last thing you should be worrying about is work as if your not well how can you function at work? I know its hard at the moment but it does get easyer as time goes by ( and with lots of counciling in my case). I look at it as if it was a roller coaster ride there's highs and lows twists and turns and at the end it is a smooth ride. My ride has lasted for over a year and it is now getting smoother( I just hope it don't start up again).
Take care of you!!! Big hugs

Baby hopes - I think if you haven't got AF in the next week or so go and see your GP or GYN it's takeing too long (9 weeks) Its time to get the ball rolling as something could be wrong. Have you had any Pain? Sorry if I have alarmed you but I waited and waited for AF to find out I had more probs and I should have acted sooner.

well - the jury is out as to the best thing that needs to be done. On the one hand, my doctor thinks that a D&C is the best thing; however on looking at the scan the specialist is not sure that they would get the retained tissue anyway - so they are trying to weigh up the risks of both options to determine what would be best. Waiting for a call back from the specialist. Really makes it difficult to plan, not knowing whether I have to go back to hospital tomorrow or not.

Still bleeding 4 weeks after...when will it end...

4 weeks after the D&C and I am still bleeding due to the retained tissue. They were hoping that I would pass it naturally and decided not to operate. Have to go for a scan (again) to see whether it is any less than the last one.

I would just like to get this over with so that I can start to plan for the future..
