kids often dont like their teeth cleaned, just do what you can, maybe try and give it to her to simply chew on. dont forget that other foods contains sugars such as fruit and carbs. is it plaque on her teeth or has it hardened into tartar??? if it's tartar only a dental will be able to remove that. some people are more prone to tartar depending on their saliva which contains calcuim and phosphate which harden the plaque into tartar.

I have to admit I'm obsessive about teething brushing....I had an accident when I was 8 that knocked one of my front teeth out and led to years of dental work. Nothing to do with tooth decay but the priority is the same; as little invasion by the dentist as possible.

Because of the tooth decay worry, I only allow my daughter onne juice a day and the rest is plain water.

We teeth brush in the morning and almost always at night, sometimes it doesn't happen as she already asleep and the routine isn't there. I let her brush her teeth first and then re-do them. It's working so far...

This wouldn't surprise me. My son, when he was about say 8 we found out his top molars had rotted! They said he had no "enamel" on his teeth. So at the hospital they took out those molars, and put enamel on the teeth and also gave him white fillings on all his teeth - this was good cos he was asleep and hopefully doesn't need to get any fillings for a long time.

Still... how lazy do we get and busy/tired as parents not to supervise our kids brushing their teeth.

I on the other hand have a very sweet tooth, so have always had problems with my teeth, fillings everywhere, I think at age 8 or 10 I had to have 4 fillings in one go!
I also have bad memories of this dentist, I think he hit me cos I was crying!

Thanks for posting the article...I wish more parents would take the time to understand all of the factors that lead to early childhood caries. I'm a dental educator for our Health Region, and one of the important things to mention to parents that they do not know is that when a parent has bad dental health, their babies/infabts do as well..This is because more research is showing lateral transmission of bacteria from the parent/caregiver to the child (licking a paci, kissing on the mouth...you get the picture..) And now data is showing horizontal transmission of bacteia from child to child in daycares/dayhomes....just when you think you had everything under control! SO we stree to moms to make sure their mouth is healthy before babe is born.

We see a lot of kids here too that need surgery, they either have no front teeth, or 4 bright silver ones...it's a real shame, cause it's usually preventable.

Interesting post Inmahbelly Makes sense. Even though sometimes our kids forget to brush there teeth before bed they still have remarkably good teeth. Maybe because DH and I take good care of ours... I'd never made that connection before.

(Maybe you should try to activate your Reputation Function... the green squares... send me a PM if you need to know how... it's so i can give your post a Rep point as that was very interesting info I'd never heard before... welcome to BB!) ETA: I see you've worked it out!
