One thing DD2 uses at Uni is a spiral exercise book that has dividers so she only has to worry about taking 1 book for notes.
Believe me it makes a difference, no scrounging around for the right book as she rushes out the door

mrsmac, depending on what course your DD is doing she may be able to borrow some of her books from the local library instead of the Uni.
If she drives get her to get a parking pass ($ ) well worth it and make sure she parks closest to her last subject especially in winter.

Just thought i would let you all know how i went!
Well, i didn't get lost, wasn't late to any classes, took everything in, and loved every second of it (except maybe Biology).

I so can't wait for tomorrow! Bring on the next 3yrs!!!!
Haha.. isn't biology a major part of your course??

I am the same. Want to do nursing, bu at school studying biology was my least favourite subject.

How are you going TK? I start next week, very excited this year, We're doing needles, Iv's canualers etc. Yay!

My best advice - is to stay in touch with the teachers :-) they are life savours, and no questions are dumb questions (usually everyone is thinking the same thing)

HJ - Great to hear you've had a great start to Uni!!!!!! I had my first week too and so far it's been good. My brain is frazzled tonight though! I agree with you about the coffee, I don't usually drink much but have been since I started uni.

Hope the biology works for you! I'm doing Anatomy and Physiology and wondering how the heck I'm going to remember it all. Fortunately we have a great anat lecturer.

Just waiting (not!) to do the rat dissections on Monday. Argh!!!!!

How's ACU?? I;ve been so impressed by all the support GU gives in regards to academic writing and assignments etc. Hope it will help me!

Look forward to hearing more about your course!

EWWWWW rat disection!!!!! i so hope we don't have to do one of them! i couldn't do it in school and i doubt i can do it now! i will vomit!
How are placements working for you?

SOunds like you'll be a busy bee!!!!! We've got a few assignment but spread out over the next few months. The txt we use for Anat and Phy is by Marieb. I've printed off our lab notes and they have colour photos of a dissected rat so I've been desensitizing myself by looking at them (and praying like crazy it works!).
Our placement isn't until Sept/Oct for a week in an aged care facitility. (since I'm doing B of nursing not midi!) Hoping I can transfer into Mid next year!

Will let you know how it goes with the rat!

I'm at Uni 5 days a week, mainly because I wanted to make sure I could take DD to school each day. Next Semester will see if I can fit tutes and labs in on the same day so I'm not there as many days.

Still planning on transferring to Mid next year. GU will no longer be doing Midi Masters after 2011. SO if I don't get into Mid for next year then I don't know what I'd do!

What's your timetable like at ACU??

u will get into Mid next year so don't worry about that!
    My timetable is Tuesday 1200-1900
    Thursday 1100-1800
Friday0900-1500 (however they dont want us going to the Lec at 0900 its being recorded) so its really 1200-1500
    So its not too bad!
why isnt GU doing Mid masters?

MamaSpice - aww shucks! - there are a few that i know of doing BMid part time! there was an absolute massive intake this year! but they say over 50% drop out by 3rd year! I really wish u were doing it this year also!
Its going well - the science part of things is soooo full on, but i can see the benifit of it and why ACU students are so well known at the hospitals! must be honest tho alot of it is going a bit over my head but im getting there! we did INFLAMMATION yesterday and that was much better! The assignments are pretty big also! i have finished 2 already, have a group presentation in 2wks and a exam next week!

    How are you going?

mama_supha - how did the poor rat disection go?

HJ - Survived the rat dissection. My lab buddy was happy to do the dissecting!

It was quite interesting though. We've just started Chemistry today, first 1/2 hour was great and then it started to get scary!!!

I've discovered that I like courses where the information is very clear cut, struggling a bit with the whole psycho social subject and the theorists!!!

We have lab quizzes which make up to 30% of our marks if we get 10/10 each quiz , so that means there's not so much pressure to do really well in the exam for those who aren't so good with exams.

Are you doing general Anat and Phys or is it specific to pregnancy already??

LOL ur so lucky! my fingers are crossed we don't have to do one!
I know this week we are disecting bones tho! could smell them cooking last week - i almost vomited!

Ur course sounds a bit like ours! we have been told if we do well in our assignments/presentations/quizzes (all together 60% of the total) we can maybe relax a little for the exam (40%) so fingers are crossed! we have been told the exam is a B***CH

We are doing general Anat and Phys - wish it was just midwifery related - but i guess we need to know it all!

I will swap u i will do your psycho social subject and the theorists stuff and u do my Biol??

Hey girls, how are you all doing!
i have just got through another week of Uni! Yay!
Next week sounds very cool as I am doing IMI's and IV's! (I'm 2nd year Nursing) Research is my Head-Banging subject! I just can't understand why I need to know it, so therefore makes me not want to do it LOL!

I remember all the classes you girls are doing! Anatomy I loved! The dissection and getting to really see how things work was so cool! But I hated my A & P assignment! Ugh, so glad I don;t have to do it again. Muma - Psycho social I have to say was quite interesting, I love Erik Ericson and Frued :-) It's interesting to see how well they really do apply ;-)

    Hope your all well :-)
