Application for Uni - Order of Docs

OK I have a whole bunch of stuff I have to send for my application for uni in 2009.

I'm putting it all in a folder and I'm not quite sure which order to put it in. I know its a silly question but I really have to get everything right!!!! Here is what I have:

The official application from the university
    My resume/CV
    My letter of motivation
My awards/certificates from my HSC and other courses
    My references/recommendations from various people

I'm guessing my resume should go first so that my name is clearly displayed on the front. Should I put the official application in the folder or have that seperately (they will need to pull it out anyway). Also, because the letter of motivation is addressed to the admissions office, should it be in front of everything - outside of the folder???

    Would really love some help!

    Hi Amy

Until very recently I worked in a university admissions unit so I might be able to help

First bit of advice? Toss the folder

That drives admissions officers mental - we have to pull everything out of it before we can even start looking at it. End of year, they'll have piles and piles of applications they're working on, folders are a massive pain

The uni's application form should go on the front. The very first thing they want to see is what course you're applying for so it can go the appropriate person/area. They also need to data enter it onto their system usually before it's assessed. The app form contains alot of the information they need to assess you so put that on the front.

    Then your letter.

Next thing they're interested in is academic quals. So school/uni results, certificates etc.

    After that, CV and references.

Good luck hope you get a place!

Yep, I agree. At our uni at first all they care about really are the forms. I would put forms -> letter -> cv (and place academic quals as part of the CV at the end). References go at the end of the CV too. Good luck!

Bummer I spent $3 on this folder

Ok so I have put it in the following order:

    Application Form
    Letter of Motivation
CV - including certificates and awards
    Letters of recommendation

Thanks heaps girls - I knew someone would have the answer!

One more Q - Do I need to certify the copies of my Higher School Certificate and transcripts (like by a JP)? What about my awards?

I would definately get them certified, it is a requirement at my Uni. However, there is a JP who works at the admissions office, so you get your stuff certified, then stick everything in order and hand it in . Maybe they have that for you?

We have a JP at my work so its not a problem to get it all certified before I send it in. Should I get the whole lot certified?

    The docs I have are

    Higher School Certificate
    HSC Transcipt
Statement of Attainment from the ACCM
    Attendence certificates for two courses
    Marriage Certificate

Also, if I include a self addressed, stamped envelope will they just assume that I want them to send me a confirmation of receipt?

Get it all certified just to be sure. I would not assume that if you include an envelope that they would automatically send you a receipt. Receipt letters are usually automatically generated and mailed out. HTH.

Yep anything that is a copy of an original needs to be certified - so everything but the original app form and your CV.

We don't send out receipts anymore, it's too time consuming. You could ask, otherwise just call or email them a few days after you think they should have it. That's what most people do.

With the letters of reference, should I just send the original copies? Seeing as they are specifically for this application?

    Yep!

I rang the uni and they said that if my HSC certificate and transcript or any other awards/certificates were in my maiden name that I needed to include my marriage certificate.

Another Q - Tobily you can probably answer this!!

Who actually decides if I get in or not?? And what are the deciding factors?? Does the letter of motivation have a big impact?? Will the course coordinator see my application?
