Sadly, securing placements for students has always been an issue - there are more students than there are places in the hospitals. All the Uni's are in the same boat. It is getting harder and harder as more Universities offer these courses and numbers in exisiting Uni's increase... but the placement spots in hospitals don't. The best advice I can give current students is to be prepared to do your clinical's out of sequence (so not at the "designated" time given by the Uni) and even tell the field placement office you are happy to do it out of sequence. In my experience (and having spoken with current students) you are more likely to get the placement you want if you do it out of sequence.
HTH and good luck to all studying this year.
