    Question Special Effects????

I will try and explain this the best way I can, hopefully someone will be able to help...I have seen some beautiful black and white pics, with a touch of colour, e.g a little girl with a ribbon in her hair, pic in b/w with the ribbon in colour...how on earth do you do that and what is the effect called????

    Thanks in advance

    It's called selective colouring

This is how I do it in Photoshop -
Open your picture then copy it, so ctrl a (select all), ctrl c (copy), ctrl n (new), enter, ctrl v (paste). Change that new one into B&W. Then copy & paste it over top of the coloured one. Use the erase tool to remove the B&W parts where you want the colour to be seen. It can be really fiddly, but it looks very cool once it's done. I usually tweak the contrast on the B&W as well, to make it even more dramatic.

there are some great photoshop tutorials out there - just google "photoshop tutorials", Sarah has given you the easiest way of doing it, I usually use masking when I'm doing stuff like that at work - but that is way more technical.

    photo tricks

    HI,

Picaso is a free photo organising and editing program from google that has really easy and cool stuff you can do to your pics with a click of the button. It has one edit called a Focal b&w, and you when you select it your photo goes b&w except for a small bit of colour. You can then adjust the size of what you want left coloured, maybe a ribbon in the hair or anything. It is really easy to use, much easier than I prob am explaining it. But i find it really good for quick easy edits like that, also nice soft focus around a beautiful sleeping baby, or glow around their little angelic faces, the list goes on, check it out. It is a really good organiser too, if you are like me and have heaps of pics on your pc, this will find them and and kinda sort them and give you some kind of organisation. You can also find duplicates in your pics and delete them.
