17 month old girl with down syndrome..

My DD's birthday is coming up and one of the ladies coming has a 17 month old daughter with ds, I would really like to include her as much as possible.

I've made up lolly bags for all the other kids (15 months - 10 yrs) but would like to know what I could put in one for the little girl I mentioned?

Also I'm will to spend some money on it if it's appropriate, can be a toy or something.

Two kids in my mothers group have downs syndrome. One is coeliac (which could happen to anyone) but the other has no intolerances. I just gave them the same as everyone else for my sons 1st and 2nd birthday bags.

most kids i've dealt with that have DS - the parents have wanted them to be treated exactly the same - so whatever you're doing for the 15month old, do for the little girl.

unless of course the parents have mentioned allergies or something on top of the DS

if the parents decide the contents aren't appropriate, they'll use the stuff and give their child a replacement - if you're really worried, ask her parents

I would have asked but the mum is likely to say "don't worry about it" or something similar as shes very shy and doesn't like to ask for anything.

It's not a matter of treating her differently, it's the fact she's 4-8 years younger than the other kids. And I would rather give something that is useful than some token junk that will be thrown out, same with the other kids.

I would do the same as the 15month old. If your worried about appropriateness - Why don't you get both of the toddlers a book? Maybe one of those photo books that can help with learning words etc. (you put a photo of mum and dad and things like that etc)

Just the extra measure to make sure that that particular child, like all children, are included in the days activites in a positive way.
As for appropriateness of gift in a lolly bag....go the book.....no one EVER throws out kids books as opposed to cheap plastic or sugar.xx xx
