:o
Yep tinks - la-la is pronounced
La dash la. You say the dash :/
Two come to mind for me.
Wraith ... born around the time as the first Lord of the Rings movie, so I always have this evil, ghoulish image rise up when I think of that name. At least it could have been spelled differently!
But the classic (for me) is Maffew. A take on Matthew. A close girlfriend taught him.
Makes me want to bang my head against a brick wall. So I can cope with Cage by comparrison.
a little boy my sister taught had an Australian Dad and a Thai Mum so they named him AussieThai :o
Maffew? Really? That's just setting him up to be thick right from the word go :/
I met a clients daughter named Mouse.
S!thhead pronounced SHH-i-th-aid.
Noooooooo!
My DH is in the RAAF and when he underwent his initial training he did it with navy and army people as well, he came across a guy in the navy whose last name was 'swallows' so he was Seaman Swallows and a guy in the army whose last name was 'Parts' so he was Private Parts!
My great uncle is William Williams and one of my school teachers was Alex Alexander
A good friend of mine has an embroidery business and she recently had one 'Jaykub'
Still laughing about Seaman Swallows.
That poor child (Maffew!).
I checked my work emails yesterday and I had an email from someone from an external company and their name was Sh*tal
:(
This thread was bumped at the right time.
Q'Dell.
Hmm... really don't think I like it. ..
There was a David David and a Richard Richardson at my school.
And yes, David David. No, no remarriage or anything. That was just his name.
I worked with a P.rescilla P.rescilla once. Her dad liked their surname so much he gave it to her as a first name so she wouldn't lose it if she got married. (The dots I just added so it can't be found via search, given it's an unusual name.)
Jen I reckon that's actually kind of sweet :) I like my married name and didn't have a second thought about changing it, but I really liked my old name too and it'd be cool to still have that link.
Having such an unusual name is just unfair to the child :(
I have a new one. Verified by at least two people.
G.enetalia.
No I am not kidding. It is pronounced Jenny Tah Lia.
That's the worst name I've heard. I hope it is an urban myth. Surely Births, Deaths and Marriages wouldn't allow Genitalia. :shakehead:
 This thread has really given me a good laugh!
I really cant get over Benson and Hedges... How is Hedges on its own even a name?!
double post
we went to school with a girl named Katinka as in kah-TING-kah
There's a girl I went to school with who's given her DD2 a different name. I don't think it's bad, but the girl's name is Katherine, at school we called her Kat and that's still what everyone calls her. Her DD2 is called K.atara, and I haven't wanted to be rude by asking but I wonder if she wanted to have her name in there and added the Tara on the end.
I came across a new student whose name is Sweetheart....whilst it's a lovely sentiment and nickname - I can't help thinking it's a hard name to put on a resume or name tag!
I know an asian family with Glory and Marvellous.
Imagine them at work?!
Boss says: 'Hey Sweetheart, have you got that report I asked for?'
In any other scenario that would be considered sexist or harassment! Lol
I feel sorry for people who immigrate here and their name means something horrible here. I went to school with a boy named Fahdi, pronounced Farty. Certainly not the intention of his parents when he was born overseas!
Or when people anglicise their names without knowing local slang - we had a senior executive come over from china for work and she changed her name to Fanny. Once she arrived and was told what her name meant she was mortified - she wished she had known before choosing that!
I went to school with a Katinka, an age ago. Wasn't that strange to us!
I'm doing a cake decorating course and one of the other women's names is Candida.
Yep.
That's bad!
Its not odd per say just she was always teased by kids at school over her name. She was a lovely girl,I just remember how hard she had due to the teasing :(
