    Boys name opinion

    HI Everyone,

DH and I shared a lovely dinner for New Year and he actually started to talk about baby names. Not something he does until the baby is almost born and we are sure of the sex

Anyhow his money is on a baby boy and he really likes the name Edin/Edyn..

It is a slavic name (my DH is Polish) that is a male derivative of Eden. However the E is pronounced like in Eddy not Eden iykwim

    Any opinions?

I like it but I think youd have fun with people pronouncing it correctly.

From someone with kids who have names that people do struggle to pronounce, but once they get it we always get WOW that is amazing, so beautiful or so spunky and different... SO, i wouldnt let the whole 'can be difficult to pronounce' affect your decision. (p.s no offense to the PP's just MHO) and we always believe no matter what name you give yur child, kids at school WILL find a way to pick on them for their name.... it just is what it is...

I actually REALLY like it..... i think with a good selection of a second name it could be such a strong masculine name... and more than anything i reckon the fact he has came up wit it all on his own is just precious!!!!!!!

    THUMBS up from me!

Bek, I quite like it. The spelling Edyn was better for me to pronounce it the way it is supposed to be. People will probably call him Ed as they usually like to shorten names.

We haven't talked names yet but the consensus thinks boy this time too.

I don't love it but definately dont hate it!!
I think if you spelt it with a double D people would pronounce it properly.
    All the best!

Missymoomoo- What are your kids names??? I am intrigued!

I like that it is different. My only concern is pronunciation, but like Missymoomoo said, once his teacher or different people know it, they will say it correctly.

Thats the issue though, we have an unusualy surname and my mum has an unusual first name, and we;ve noticed people often ignore us when we tell them the correct pronunciationa nd either continue to say or spell it incorrectly, or tell us *we're* wrong, and thats not how you say/spell that name...

So as long as you're firm, or just meet nicer people than me

I already have to explain to most people how to pronounce Sara and I always have to spell my name, both girls names and our surname so I guess one more name to spell and pronounce wouldn't hurt...BTW I agree with spelling the name Edyn and I would call him Eddy for a cute name.

Bek - I really like it but the only thing that springs to mind is that the way I'm pronouncing it (which might be wrong!) it sounds kinda similar to Loren - how do you pronounce Loren? Is it like 'Lauren'? Sorry, that sounds dumb but just double checking!

Not sure if that would even bother you, just thought I'd throw a spanner in the works - LOL.

Willow - Loren is pronouced like Lauren and I agree. I am not sure of the name now, I am concerned that ppl will call him Eden.

So it is back to our other list of Tomasz, Nikolas, Lukas or even Xander.

Mind you our 13wk scan predicted a girl...

Bek, I was about to say what Willow said how Edyn sounds similar to Loren....but you have some beaut alternatives there. Xander isn't really my choice but I love the other three, especially Tomasz.
