    Charlie or Charley?

    Hi everyone,

This is the only name that DH and I can agree on so far! We're having a little boy and we both love Charley/Charlie but not sure what the best spelling is. I've had a few people suggest it's a girlie name - I totally disagree but it made me wonder if the spelling would effect if others saw it as a boys or girls name. What do you think?

For the record I would have gone with 'ie' if I hadn't had the 'girlie' comments

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I like it Charlie but I'd probably call him Charles on his birth certificate. Just my opinion

i know 4 Charlies (all boys) and they spell it the "traditional" way - I think Charley actually looks more girly! - When i saw that way of spelling it, my first instinct was to pronounce it Char-lei

Thanks girls. It's good to have my gut feeling confirmed!

Do you automatically think girl or boy when you hear 'Charlie?' Still feeling a bit worried that it's become more of a girls name these days.

That said we don't have any other options that we both like. I love Finn but DH won't even consider it, which is not like him so he obviously really doesn't like it

When I hear Charlie I (& DH) initially think boy. I like Divvy's idea of putting Charles on the birth certificate though. It is a cute name, but he may not want Charlie when he's a grown man.
