I agree and it sucks! I guess it comes with any name that has a literal meaning. My cousin wants to name her second baby, if she has a girl (due in March) Indigo Violet. They are both colours from the rainbow! But they hadn't even thought of the colours - they just love the names.
I guess it comes down to personal choice and being able to deal with negative comments. I don't think anyone can win when it comes to naming a baby - there will always be someone out there with something nasty to say!
i would look at Indigo as a color, Violet as a flower - so same name different interpretation! but i guess that comes from being a bit of a gardener that likes flower names! i wouldn't use them together, but that's personal choice. you may find that your cousin is thinking of violet as a flower more than a color...
would depend on how close you are to your cousin as to whether she'd take offence (or put you off using it!) - we havent eliminated any names based on my family - but all names that we can directly like to DH's family have been cut off any list we have!
only another ooh 30 weeks or so Amy! two BB-ites know boys name, and one knows girl. and that's only cos we're really good friends and it was a case of sharing so that names didn't get "stolen" inadvertantly!
