Smile Dont you feel as though someone will use your names?

You know how you pine over a name and love it to bits and then you tell people and they either hate it or use it... Well im scared to tell anyone my ideas. I was the same with DS But I knew what his name would be all along even though we didnt know he was a boy til the birth..... But we loved Romone.... It was just perfect for us. Now this time round I'm getting a few vibes on names

But dont you stress some one will ise your names or dont you care?

i know there are alot of popular names out there and people love using them

But I pick weird names so I want my kid to be the only one
    Anyone else feel that way?

I had friends that stole other friends names and they arent friends anymore with eachother

    But my names are unique

    I loved Romone my son

Now I like Diego for a boy
And Alannah for a girl though I have another weird one of a kind name here also

    What do you think?

I love the names you have! They are unique you are right
In my extended family most of us [my cousins] have unique names.
And the same has gone on with all our kids.

I think if you are worried, keep them close and don't say anything.

I had DS2's name chosen when I was preg with #2.
Just before I fell preg with him a friend of mine named her son the same name.
But I still used it when DS2 was born, and it wasn't an issue at all.
We both loved the name, and didn't mind we both had a sone with it.
We're still friends 12 years later

It's actually tradition in my family that names aren't discussed. That way you don't have to listen to peoples own perspectives yanno - and we like surprises.

I never, ever discussed names with anyone bar my partner....and sometimes my mum.

Yeah, i don't really like discussing names with anyone...don't want any negative feedback I guess...and I like to surprise everyone too.

    Your names are cool.

We chose not to tell anyone (I don't even think I mentioned them on here) just so that we wouldn't get the negative remarks if there were any. We figured that when bub was born everyone would just love the name because they loved them IYKWIM? The exception was DS. My uncle and godfather was dying. 9 days before I had DS, I felt I needed to tell him that I was having a boy and that his name would be Nate. I rang and told my aunt late that night. He passed away two days later.
As for others stealing my names...well I love them so I figure that someone else out there will too.

I think Diego and Alannah are both cool, and Diego and Ramone go well together.

i know exactly how it feels to have someone steal your name upsetting to say my own sis in law stole in 2 weeks before i gave birth when she gave birth to her daughter i was very upset and angry but i vented on my DH and let it go luckily i had a boy!! but recently on a hospital visit i was talking to some lady and we were discussing names and the name everyone can see from my ticker was revealed to her and i was called up and short time later came back and she was so excited when she told me she had rang her hubby and told him the name and he loved it and now she is gona name her child amali if it is a girl!!! gotta love it...

Until we know whats cooking this time we haven't been screaming names from the rooftops lol but as we dont choose unique names but not alot of common either I dont mind telling them after we know what name we have chosen. DD's name is Bethany and so far she has not been in daycare or kinder with another Bethany but its not out there for us so this next bub will have a name similar thats is common but not for the age group I hope lol

I wonder if teachers/childcare workers are more prone to checking for duplicate names first, or at least avoiding the ultra-popular names?

I used to teach at uni, I had some classes that had 4 or 5 each of Matthew and Lisa (this was mid-90s) and it made roll-call hell.

We didn't tell anyone the name we'd picked for our little girl (we knew she was a girl when I was pg) as we wanted it to be a surprise for everyone to find out what we'd picked and we didn't want anyone's comments on the name we'd chosen as it isn't anyone's business!

Wasn't too worried anyone would use the same name as noone else I knew in my family or close friends was pg at the time anyway.

I do, I worry about this all the time, and our boys name (which I am super tightlipped about) is borderline. But we love it, so we're going for it. BUT my SIL is a teacher, and has picked a Top 10 name for her little boy, so I guess it doesn't apply all round.

Someone did use our boys name, a fairly close friend, earlier this year, it was before I was pg, but after our angel EDD, and that upset me soooo much. For a little while, and now I'm over it and have moved on to something else.

I have a close friend due same time as me, and worried that she'll use our boys name. BUT we have a secondary name that I now love so much that I don't mind at all.

Dh's Sis suggested a name and I said I can't use that my best friend is naming her bub that, due 10 days before our bub & she said who cares just use it, Theres no way I'd steal a name, it's not a nice thing to do at all.
We are learning to keep our name choices under wraps as ppl always have something negative to say!

I don't doubt someone will use our names at one time or another! We don't have very unusual or unique names. For me if someone has the same name as my children I would either see it as a compliment or that someone has a great taste as me hehe, honestly I wouldn't mind. I don't have a monopoly over these names.
The only reason I would not disclose the names we have chosen is because I don't want to hear negative comments, particularly from my mother. She has alreasy turned me off two names I had chosen for this bub, so the names (Emily Louise and Dylan Matthew) we have chosen now are staying under wraps to her at least!

I get worried that someone will take my name, but the few people I've told so far have done the "Oh, that's a nice name" thing. So I doubt it's many peoples taste, but I don't care because DP and I like it and I have wanted to call my boy (if I ever have one) this name since I was like 10 lol
