Gunther
Wolfgang
We're also looking at german boys names, on our list:
Mathias
Dieter
Edwin
Emmett
Lance
some great suggestions above though, i might get DH to look at that !
The only thing I'd say re Claus or Klaus, is that in australia people often pronounce it like "santa claus" instead of "claus" like "spouse" (my fatherinlaw is Klaus)
Gunther
Wolfgang
Josef (pronounced Yosef) DP wanted to call DS Josef but I didn't really like it.. but maybe you & DH will![]()
Some of our German relatives are:
Alban - Alby
Alois
Bernhardt
Hans
Horst
Stefan
Andreas
They also have names like Paul, Thomas and Peter but said with an accent makes them seem quite different.
The Veronicas (the twin Aussie girl pop singers) said that they named themselves after Veronica from the comics... to be totally honest I think that their age (what are they like early - mid 20's?) would be the last to remember good old Archie...
I hope DH comes around to your way of thinking... I must admit I'm really liking Arlen tho!!
Good idea to recruit your DD!
Alvin - It's cute and similar to Archie. Alvie as nickname
Bruno - Very strong
Emmet - has the meaning "strong and industrious"
Finn - I love this
Frederick -I love the nickname Freddie
Harvey - I know the cutest 2 year old Harvey
Miles - very cool
Rory - Its a genuine German name as well as Irish (means Famous Ruler)
Like any?
Thanks for all the names.
Had a quick chat last night to DH he said he didn't mind Dieter or Oskar.
Maybe Gerhardt.
What do you think a nickname would be if you were called Gerhardt??
I forgot about Arlen lol (stupid brain) will have to remember to mention that one tonight.
At least we are starting to agree on something now.
I really like Oskar and Arlen!
Not sure what a nn for Gerhardt would be!
Not sure if these are all German but are names of German / Austrian family:
Ernest (Ernie)
Reinhardt (pro. Rine-heart)
Gunter (pro. goon-ta)
Rafael
oh and Reinier (pro. rah-near) but not 100% this is German either but like this the most.

So we still haven't decided on a boys name.
running out of time here lol
I think I am coming around to Heinrich, just because it is so important to DH.
I still really am not "in love" with the name, though I am warming to it.
Apart from Henry what do you reckon a nickname could be for Heinrich??
Happy Heiny (lol sorry! it was too cute)
Not sure what else, I like Henry though.
I just brought some of those, maybe he could become the poster boy lol!!!

I suspect kid would relate Heinrich to heinz baked beans or something like that for teasing.
I know of a baby called Henrik. His mother shortens his name to Hen. If you liked the Rik part better he could be Rick or Ricky (like Ricky Ponting) to Australianize it.
