I love it! In fact it is on my boys name list but my cousin recently had a baby & used it. Well my DH wouldn't let me use it anyway so I'm glad someone in the family has. There will always be people who don't like the name you choose. A good thing I think as the world would be boring if everyone had the same name.

... i'm such a crusader of DO NOT TELL your IRL friends & family, it can run such a risk in people putting you off or having you in doubt because of their negative comments (pfffttt to them i say) !!

Until this day not one relo on DP's side of the family has made any comment whatsoever of our DD's name ... which tells me some or most don't like it so thankfully i never asked for their comments ... on the other hand i have 'some' of my own family and friends tell me they love her name !!

.... May i say i really like Austin William, it's a really strong classical name

I just had to pop in and tell you that I think it is such a great name. It is unique without being too weird (I won't give examples incase someone in here has them names, but you know the names certain celebrities call their Bubbas?) it's strong, it's cute, you can abbreviate it if you like to Ozzy or something, easy to learn to spell/say, and at the end of the day, who cares if people don't like it, so long as they like your Baby. People feel they have to comment on everything, and that their opinions matter, but from experience, so long as you can both agree on a name as a couple, you are on a winning streak there (something that DH and I are yet to achieve lol). I say go for it!!!!!!

TBH this is why i told DH that we are NOT telling ppl the name of this baby until after she makes her arrival. it was gutting when we told people we were calling DD1 Leila and they would harp on about what an awful name it was. once that baby is born they all shut-up and i guess got over it lol!

    I love it.

But we are not telling anyone our names for exactly this reason. When we have this baby and introduce Hannibal/Hildegarde, they will just love the baby as that name, and there will be no time for screwing up of noses. Or they will do it behind our backs. Which is what I do anyway if I don't like a name. I think it's the one case where you shut your trap and whinge to someone else if you don't like it. So Boooooo to anyone who doesn't like Austin.

As for what others think, blah to them! - its your bubba and its up to you and DP to choose the name you like - thats why (like many others in this thread!!) Dh and i chose not to tell anyone what we'd chosen for our DD and the same will go for this bub
