Hi BB's, I am nearly JUST pregnant with my 2nd bub (fingers crossed) and have found my favourite name in the whole wide world but... alot of people I have spoken to dont like it (eg. my mum ). So I am feeling a little disheartened and wanted your thoughts...
the name is Austin for a boy. I would probably team it with a family name so it would be
Austin William M******
i love austin! so long as ur surname is martin you'll be right!
stuff what everyone thinks, if u like then use it! everyone will get used to it. my mum hated the name we picked for DD2 and hates the name we have picked if this ones a boy, but ah well to her!
I love it! to hell with what anyone else thinks though. when i told my mum we liked the name Grace for a girl she told me she ''hated it and it wasnt even a biblical name''. she liked it once we had actually had her and i told her thats what wed called her...although she did keep asking 'what does it actually mean' ? i think is a beautiful name!!
I love it! In fact it is on my boys name list but my cousin recently had a baby & used it. Well my DH wouldn't let me use it anyway so I'm glad someone in the family has. There will always be people who don't like the name you choose. A good thing I think as the world would be boring if everyone had the same name.
TBH this is why i told DH that we are NOT telling ppl the name of this baby until after she makes her arrival. it was gutting when we told people we were calling DD1 Leila and they would harp on about what an awful name it was. once that baby is born they all shut-up and i guess got over it lol!
But we are not telling anyone our names for exactly this reason. When we have this baby and introduce Hannibal/Hildegarde, they will just love the baby as that name, and there will be no time for screwing up of noses. Or they will do it behind our backs. Which is what I do anyway if I don't like a name. I think it's the one case where you shut your trap and whinge to someone else if you don't like it. So Boooooo to anyone who doesn't like Austin.
As the ladies have said if you like it, then stuff everyone else. Our baby names were a secret so that we wouldn't get any comments.
Nothin' worse then negative comments about a baby name(s) that you love. Names are hard enough to choose to begin with, without those type comments.
I think it's a great name and know a girl who has a DS called Austin. You will never please everyone with the baby name you choose and why should you? It's your baby not theirs! For this reason and wanting to surprise everyone we are not telling anyone the names we have picked out. Most people wont be so rude as to tell you they don't like it 'after' you've already named your child.
No matter what name you use people get used to it in the end anyway. My cousin was born when I was 15 and was named Erin, I thought it was the stupidest name I'd ever heard now check my signature LOL
I too keep our names to just us for similar reasons. If it's what you like then no one should tell you otherwise (except for maybe DH ) I haven't been too keen on a couple of names i've heard in the past but you grow to love them as you get to know they baby/child/person.
I have a friend whoes Grandparents called her a totally different name to what she was given at birth because they didn't like the name her parents had chosen for her. But they got over that eventually...
