We are most likely calling our DD2 "Aya" from Game of Thrones

If you like Ah-Ya then Aya would probably be the way I would spell it otherwise it looks like it should be pronounced like Aria. But if you like the name Aria then I would spell it "Aria".

The spelling Arya doesn't really let you know how it should be pronounced.

And if you call her Arya, make sure her middle name or your last name doesn't start with N.

'Arya N.' has racist connotations that most people would prefer to avoid, I would imagine.

I pronounce the name in the book the same way as 'Aria' meaning song, ie with three syllables. I think it's a beautiful name.

Definitely Are-yuh. I wouldn't have thought to look at it any other way, weird. If you spelt it Aya, I would say ay-ah (as in heya without the h)

    Lol M

I quite like Aya - if you want Ah-ya then Aya is definitely the way to go. I saw it and went Ah-ree-ah.

Or Aria. But of course in Australia that has music connotations... Dunno.

When I read GoT, I've pronounced it like Aria. It's a pretty name.

But Aria is pronounced "ah-ree-ah" - it means "song" and is used worldwide. Aya would be "Ay-ah" rather than "ah-ya", to me at any rate.

My immediate thought when I saw it as Aye-rah....not sure why....when I see it I see the 'Aye' sound as the first letter as opposed to the 'a' sound

I was trying to think of where I had seen/heard/read that name before…and it was from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

I always read it as Are ya….Like Nothing2Lose.

Game of Thrones is where we got the name Problem is in the show, depending on who says it the pronunciation is different. Ned (her father) says Ah-ya, other people say Ah-ree-ya. Didn't think about spelling is Aya. That could be a way to go.

I always read it as Ah-ya in the books. I like Aria as well but would spell it that way.
