I voted Ah-ree-ya prior to reading you post. I would struggle to automatically pronounce it Ah-ya unless you told me that was how it was pronounced
Ah-ya
Ah-ree-ya
How would you pronounce Arya? Ah-ya or Ah-ree-ya
DF and I found out this morning we are having a girl and typically, we had totally settled on a boys name but the girls name is a bit up in the air. The option we both like the most is Arya, but can't agree on pronunciation. While we both prefer the pronunciation Ah-ya, I don't want my baby growing up with people not know how to pronounce her name properly (like I have my whole life).

Uuummmm...neither.
I looked at it and saw Are-Ya. Like, 'Are ya going to the shop?'.
Not a fan, sorry.
Ah-re-ah
Probably like a pirate - ARRRGH-yah. But then I like playing pirates.
There's a girl with this name in Game of Thrones. I've been reading it as A-ree-ah, but I'm always wondering if that's right lol.
The thing with names is, you just tell people first - "this is my DD Ah-ya." A friend of mine has a new DD named Maya. When I just saw it written I was saying My-a in my mind, but when we went to visit my friend said "May-a is having a nap". Easy, that's how I say it now

We are most likely calling our DD2 "Aya" from Game of Thrones![]()
If you like Ah-Ya then Aya would probably be the way I would spell it otherwise it looks like it should be pronounced like Aria. But if you like the name Aria then I would spell it "Aria".
The spelling Arya doesn't really let you know how it should be pronounced.
And if you call her Arya, make sure her middle name or your last name doesn't start with N.
But Aria is pronounced "ah-ree-ah" - it means "song" and is used worldwide. Aya would be "Ay-ah" rather than "ah-ya", to me at any rate.
My immediate thought when I saw it as Aye-rah....not sure why....when I see it I see the 'Aye' sound as the first letter as opposed to the 'a' sound
I was trying to think of where I had seen/heard/read that name before…and it was from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.
I always read it as Are ya….Like Nothing2Lose.
i would say Ah-ree-ya but i have a friend with a DD with that name & that's how they pronounce it.
Game of Thrones is where we got the nameProblem is in the show, depending on who says it the pronunciation is different. Ned (her father) says Ah-ya, other people say Ah-ree-ya. Didn't think about spelling is Aya. That could be a way to go.
I always read it as Ah-ya in the books. I like Aria as well but would spell it that way.
Are-ya
Thought that is were you got it from Miss Dee
If you look up on the GoT site it's suppose to be pronounced ARE-yuh
