Just wanting to get your opinions on middle names. I really don't want to choose a random middle name, otherwise I don't see the point of having one at all.
On my side of the family my dads surname will be gone once my sister gets married, so it's a bit sad that there is noone to carry on the family name (sadly his brother died at a young age and my grandad is long gone too). We are having a girl (our first) and I was thinking of using my dads first name as a middle name as a sort of tribute, but with a more femine spelling. His name is Michael and I was thinking of Mykel...what does everyone think of it?
I think we've decided on Aaliyah for her, so it would be Aaliyah Mykel...?? We have a fairly strong and "normal" surname so think it may balance out the unusual/different names...
I'm not normally one for 'alternate' spellings as such, but I think it works.
Obviously there's the whole Michaela/Mikayla female Michael options, but I think it's nice that you that you want to use your Dad's name 'as is'.
We named our dd1 mehkelti - which is taken from an actor's name - spelt slightly different but is pronounced Michael-t. Perhaps you could do something like that? Our dd is pronounced meh-kell-tee though, not Michael-t.
The actor is spelt mykelti so I don't see a problem with having mykel as a name, just not very feminine if that bothers you?
I really like it. My hubby middle name Michael and I was thinking of just using Michael as middle name for both genders. I like.mykel because it sounds like it spelt and works with the first name.
