The year i was born my name was in the top 20. I have only ever met a handful of other people with the same name as me. There was certinaly never another in my class, oh i tell a fib there was a girl in year 9 and 10 who came and left with the same name.
If you love it, just go for it.
ETA. I was just looking at some statistics. (i know! bored!) in 2007 there were apporximately 43,000 baby girls born in NSW, the top baby name isabella made up only 531 of these. So although it was the most popular, there are thousands of babies with names other than that one! In fact it only makes up about 1% of all babies born.

Mmm- tricky one. Especially if you both like the name- thats the hardest part- finding a name you BOTH like!! If it were me, and there was another name that my DH and I BOTH liked, then I would give the less common one preference- and perhaps use the common name as a middle name.
Or perhaps if there is another name that sounds similar but can easily be distinguished between the two?
Name crazes come in waves- so perhaps you could save that name for another bub down the track- when the name has died off a bit? Just a thought.....
If not... at least you have a name you both like. DH and I took forever to name DS1 as we stubbornly refused each others name choices!! My theory was- I push the baby out of my vagina- I get the last say!! Lol....
If you love it I would go for it - regardless of if it is in the top 100. But if it really bugs you I would start searching again - or find a similar name that isn't as popular.
Personally, it wouldn't bother me at all. If we like a name, we choose it.
When I was in high school there were 5 Amys (of varying spellings) in my year and it didn't affect me at all.
I know what you mean. We specifically didn't pick a name in the top 10 listings because we didn't want DD to go to school with a thousand other Ava's. Well it looks like she's going to anyway, cause in 2008, its in the top 10 grrrr
Was the name in the top 100 or the top 10? If its not in the top 10- I'd say go for it.
Here is a list I cut and pasted from the web (Top 10 Names for Queensland 2008) Maybe its different to the one you saw?
