Question Is this name too unique?

DH and I are thinking about the name Amalie (or Amalee). Using Sophie or Sophia as a middle name. I found it in a baby book and I love the sound of it - also we can use Milly as a nick name. The thing is, I'm not a fan of unique names or names that are spelt different just to be different. I don't want to have to spell it out all the time. So my question is, is Amalie a unique name or have people heard of it before or know anyone with this name? I don't know anyone with this name, but I'm pretty sure I've heard it used before in movies.

Yep, I know two babies called Amalie. And there is a movie titled the same. It's a French movie I think. I loved it and it's where I first heard the name, since then I think it has become more popular.

Hmm I think the movie is spelt like Olive says.

My cousin named her little girl Amelie. So no, definitely not too unique!

I prefer it spelt Amelie too, but agree that it's not too unique. It might be confused with Amelia though.

There's an Amelie in DD's gymbaroo class. I think it's becoming more common. It's a lovely name though.

Amelie is actually quite a common name these days here and is obviously very common in France.

Thanks everyone!! You have been all really helpful.
DH actually prefers the spelling Amelie.
It is just an idea, I'm really confused this time around with names. Last time we had DS's name chosen right from the beginning.
