There are many cruel names for children in the world, Bosley is not one of them (IMO)! If you & your DH like it who cares?![]()
DH and I have picked the name Bosley (or Bozley) for our DS-to-be. We have been searching but couldn't find it on any name websites... until yesterday. DH found it - it's old English for 'a grove of trees' and is used as a last name in humans (think Bosley from Charlie's Angels!) but mainly as a dog's name!
Are we cruel to pick a dog's name for our child?

I don't know of any dogs with that name. I have come across dogs called Jack & Sam though - 2 of the most common boys names lol! I think its quite nice & original.
It does sound like a dog name to me and i don't personally like it but it isn't my child.
LOL, I wouldn't worry about it. You know I've heard of some people calling their dogs Jodi![]()
I hear more dogs being called Jessie or Sasha or Tobi or Maggie and don't consider those dog names ... do you know any dogs called Bosley? I think that would be funny if you did. I am neither here nor there on the name but when I read it I immediately thought of Charlies Angels we can that GO for that
FWIW Indianna Jones called himself that after his dog Indianna now I think Indianna is a gorgeous name and it was very nearly DD's (I might pop it back in the vault)
Nae x
Okay, i have never heard of it as a name before on a person or an animal, so i don't know why people would say its a dogs name. The only dogs name that comes in mind, which is somewhat close to Bosley is Muttley from the Hannah Barbera cartoons.
If you like it, go with it. People are never going to agree on names with you.
I LOVE IT!!!
I'm going to add it to my list... is that wrong?!?
Most of my names on my list are old english names and/or names that sounds like surnames.
My friend called her baby Ziggy, about a week after I'd met 2 different dogs called Ziggy. I never would have thought of Ziggy being a dog's name if it hadn't been for that, and I've never known a dog called Bosley so I think you're safe!
Thanks everyone. I suppose I was just looking for a bit of reassurance. We're not telling anyone IRL until he's born so I have no family and friends to run it by. I honestly don't care but I wouldn't want little Boz to get mercilessly teased!![]()
Hi J I ran the new name on my list - Bosley! - past some good friends last night and got a chuckle and some raised eyebrows! Hmmm. Just thought I should let you know.
Having said that they also didn't respond very well to my other preferred names so I reckon, stuff 'em!!
We really liked Bailey for a boy when I was PG with DD (before we knew she was a girl) & DF's cousin told us it was a dogs name so DF turned round & said "well I know a couple of dogs called ***"![]()
If you like it, go with it! When I had Bellah XP's mum goes oh thats a dogs name but i dont care what she thinks shes my little girl and i have called her what i wanted to
Im not a fan of it, I would think of it as a dogs name too. But, its not my choice or my baby, we have a strict policy when choosing baby names, do not under any circumstances tell ANYONE the name til the baby is born and named, then everyone just has to get used to it.
i love it! We want to use Baxter and we know someone with a dog that name...but i don't care!! I love it!
Bosley, Bailey, Baxter, Bellah... what's with this two syllable B-names being accused of being dogs names?!!!
Actually our dog was called Bindi... hmmm!
Hey I was actually tempted at one time to stick with our foetal nickname - Scooby. Now THAT'S a dog's name, no arguments there!!!![]()
Ok..dogs names we have in the family, or have had.
My 2 are currently Henry & Bella. Mum & Dad's is Wally. MIL's are Belle & Ruby.
Past dogs - Jess, Maggie, Molly, Lucy, Mick, Kristy, Isabel, Zeke.... How many of those are 'dog' names?
I think the only dogs names we had/have are Mooch, Tipsy, Sooky. I knew a dog called Rusty for years when I was younger & thought it wierd to find out my bestie's cousin named her DS that, but now I really really like it!
ETA - When DS was born, we had the dog Jess.....then named him Jesse....lol. It took 4 months for someone to pick up on it though. It was purely an accident! We weren't going to use Jesse just for that reason, lol.
