Naming a boy after its daddy

hey there ladies.
was just wondering what peoples views are on naming their bubs after the dad.
My fiance's name is baden, and we were thinking of naming it 'Bayden' or 'Baydon' if its a boy.

what are your opinions, do you like the name, honestly, (and dont just say yes cause its my fiances name

Also, what spelling do you like more? or what seems more modern?

I would never name my child after its father - mainly cos I don't like his name.. rofl..

I think its a lovely name if we have a boy this time round we will be using dp name as the middle name. I say go with what you guys like

Would you then call the bub Junior though? just wondering how you would teach the child to differentiate (sp?) between when YOU are talking to child or father. I personally don't see anything wrong with it but I think it could get confusing for the child unless you call your DF something else??

I don't have a problem with it, but most of the people I know named after a father or grandfather usually go by their second name to avoid confusion, I know some that are Bill/Will and their Dad is William etc, so thats something to think about too.

I love the idea of having family names. Ok, so we dont have a Phil, but Harrys middle name is the same as his dads. All my kids names include a name from someone important to me. Usually middle names. Angies is my mums, CJs is my granddads, Lytas is my nans, Sams is my dads and Harry is phils dads name and shares his middle name with his dad. Phoebe is being named after my best friends. So its not so old skool and dorky like people think these days.

I like the idea of using an I, aka: Baiden.

PMSL- na i couldnt call him that as a nickname, as my fiances full name is Baden Johnston, and his name is pratically BJ, no one ever calls him baden, its always BJ.

I wouldn't name my son after his father, would be too weird having to people of hte same name in the one house I reckon. I do love giving babies familynames that have special meaning though.

DS is Archie Connor. Archie after his great grandfather and Connor is my maiden name.

I personally could not name my child the same name as its father. I would like my son to have his own name. In saying that our first son will be named Mason, which is my DH's middle name, although I have always loved the name.

The name Michael runs in my family, my Dad, Brother and Nephew are all Michaels but my Dad is known as Mick, Brother as Michael and Nephew as Mikey so they all have their 'own' name. Maybe this is why I don't feel the need to do it, as the rest of my family has .

I like the name Baden, I think it is nice, although I would be more inclined to spell the same as Dads name.

My BIL is named after FIL as his first name. MIL & FIL had a pretty bitter divorce and now MIL can't bring herself to say FIL's name so calls BIL "jnr" when talking about him in conversation. It might have been better for them to use the name as a middle name.

Having grown up in that environment my DH is really against using family names as he feels everyone should have their own identity and not be expected to live up to some one else by having their name.

Not saying that would happen to you but thought it was worth adding to the discussion.

Personally, I wouldn't name my kids after any family members. I'd like the kidlet to have their own identity and name plus no one else gets their nose out of joint.

But if you were going to go with Baden, I like that spelling best. Besides, if everyone calls your hubby BJ, there shouldn't be any confusion if everyone is calling your bub Baden.

Another on who isn't a fan of handed down names, but I love the name Baden, especially spelt that was.
It's a great 'man's' name.

Personally I couldnt name a child after any relative, however using it as a middle name is cool. DS middle name is DH name.

personally im not a fan of naming kids after their parents (either first or middle names) but each to their own.

Hmmm, Just guess I should add that both my names are "hand me downs". I'm not having any identity issues.

I don't have a problem with boys being named after their father, but I would spell it the same way as the father in most cases. My DH's name is Matthew, if we had a son and named him after DH then the son would be nicknamed MJ (Matthew Junior).
