thanks ladies, makes me feel a little less of a monster.
the thing that annoys me most is that her maiden name is Oscars middle name!!!
grrr makes me mad she is so selfish!
thanks for listening and responding ladies.
Charlotte's middle name is Paige, as Page was my maternal grandmother's maiden name. Her cousin born a few month earlier is Lucy Elizabeth, the Elizabeth for DHs mum, so luckily got out of that one lol
But my mum didn't like her name, so didn't want us to use it.
The next one if it is a boy will have a middle name for both our families - my grandfather and DHs father shared a middle name.
It is a girl she will be named using my mums maiden name or middle name, as mum died last year.
Name your kids whatever you want! (Well, Heavenly Hiranni Tiger Lily is a bit OTT ) She sounds incredibly rude to me, and I don't think I would have been so restrained with my response lol so good on you
Hehehe... I have one of those MILs!!! I am feeling your pain. After a while we become professionals at deep breathing and counting backwards from ten.
We have chosen family names as middle names for our kids... we are only planning to have 3 (hopefully), so either way someone is going to miss out. I agree that it is your choice and nobody elses. And she should feel very special to have scoredOscars middle name.
Some parents just don't know when to butt out... its a good lesson for us in 'what not to do when our kids grow up'.
Good luck and stick to your guns!
When I was pg with DD1, we told MIL that the middle name would be Fay after my hubbies mentor and our friend who died of cancer 4 years ago and MIL was not happy. In the end DD1's middle name was a combination of both our mum's first names so Julianne. DD2 has the middle name of Fay and no other family member got a look in.
That is a bit selfish that your MIL is looking for more after having her maiden name as your son's middle name. Sheesh.
We didn't name any of our kids after family members for this reason, I didn't want to deal with potential hurt feelings & grandparents feeling left out...
We did end up giving DS2 and DD2 middle names that related back to us. But no grandparents!
It's such a tricky thing, some parents expect it... I think maybe it was the done thing years ago, these days it is really up to you.
Your MIL has already got a look in, and as you say your own mother hasn't.. I would just turn a deaf ear to any complaints
I am in the same situation, I have my second due in 4 weeks and I am constantly being asked what names we will be using for the 2nd name.
My DH family is Greek and there is a long standing tradition that the first boy and girl born have a name from the fathers side. (or FILas in my case, my husband couldn't give a rats). During my 1st pregnancy he would just call my belly Gweneth, as that is the name that is 'next in line' to be used. I never hated the name, but I certainly did by the time the baby came. My DH just seems to able to ignore his father, so after our DD was born he named her Charlize Mackenzie. I didn't mind either, and was too exhausted to think of any myself so I went with both. Luck has it that Mackenzie was my Nanna's maiden name, so even though I didn't chose it AND DH didn't even know that, my FIL got a bee in his bonnet that the name came from my side of the family. (I know wished I had never mentioned it) ARRRR
He now calls my belly Ellenore, or Ellie. I have said MANY a time that although that name is very nice, my cousin used it, so I wouldn't be using it. And then he will bring out the family tree so I can see other female names that have preceeded my unborn daughter. I was thinking about using my DH sisters name as a middle name as she is a fantastic role model and is currently working her way up the political ladder in Canberra, but after ALLL this talk I really don't feel like using any.
So my point to the story was (sorry about the essay) is I don't think these grandparents realised that if they just shut-up we would be more likely to use their names!!!! After moaning about it to my mum for both pregnancies, she has said 1 sentance to me
'You don't get to name many children in your lifetime,so make sure you pick something you want and don't worry about what everyone else thinks.'
P.S. I REALLY like all of your names. They are all so different. I like the idea of Brynn for a girl. And I love Storm - no-one would mess with her on the playground!!!

Grrr what a witch. She should be thrilled her maiden name is included! On the other hand, I adore MIL stories because mine is so awful so it helps to hear other people's LOL!
Our first son will have my father's name as his middle name (Graham). We are not telling dad - it will be a surprise!!
This is because both DH and I adore my dad. DH and dad get on really well, go out together etc. And dad is an incredible and inspiring man.
Mum doesn't get a name, because her name is already my middle name. Ditto DH with his father.
MIL is a total ************** so nope nothing there! DH and I agree on that.
