Gosh I really like Alaric, it sounds like something from Lord of the Rings, my dh would like it I like Leila pronounced Lay-la, I think it's nice that you have changed the spelling though to be pronounced the way that you want it sound as Leila is pronounced Lay-la so I'm not surprised that your nana has had people say it wrong all of her life.
the meaning of Alaric is Noble Ruler. There was a Gothic King named Alaric years ago, he was a visigoth, (not the wear all black sort of goth) he plundered Rome in 410 AD, found that out after deciding on the name.
I don't think my nanna has had trouble with people pronouncing her name wrong, not as far as I know, it just most people on the internet say it is Lay-La. I think a name is pronounced the way the parents decide :-)
