Our eclectic girl’s names list – comments and suggestions welcome.

Argh, we are having so much trouble with girl’s names (actually and boy’s names too but I want to sort out girls first). We like to have a list of about 5 names and then when the babe pops out we try them on for size and see what fits (DS - Angus and DD - Harriet were the very last names on their respective lists). All the other names that were on the list for DD I’ve now gone off.

A few rules: must go with Angus and Harriet, must not be too popular.

This is what we’re left with:
    Lucinda
    Violet
Elise (my fave, DH hates it)
    Cassandra
    Eleanor
    Adelaide
    Miranda
    Georgia
    Sydney
    April
(the babe will be born in April and I kind of think it’s weird to have the same name as your birth month but DH is very keen on this because he is absolutely hopeless with dates (doesn’t even know his own birthday/age) and says it’s one less thing he’ll have to remember, not that he remembers anything like that anyway ).

On the list for DD but I’ve now gone off:
    Madeline
    Claudia

Recently vetoed (by me or DH):
    Zoe
    Genevieve
    Paige
    Laura
    Lauren
    Clementine
    Dorothy
    Hazel
    Phoebe
    Elaine
    Ariane
    Penelope
    Deborah
    Cordelia

Like but can’t have (close family member’s name):
    Evangeline
    Holly
    Louise

    Elspeth?
    Flora?
    Iona?

You've got Adelaide on your list which is a lovely name but it starts with an A. You said no A's

My faves from your list are Georgia and Adelaide.

Love it but DH vetoed it a while ago, I’ll put it on the veto list.

I'm such an nong, I didn't even notice. I love it too and I think DH is quite keen as well. Better go and change the rules.

ETA: AND there's an April on there too. Rules are meant to be broken aren't they.

    Nella?

MummyNaomi - you would pronounce Myfanway: Mih-van-weh. It's a welsh name, traditionally spelt Myfanwy or Myfanweh. It means 'My Little Lovely One'. I quite like it. The only person I am aware of who has the name is Myf Warhurst from Spicks and Specks TV show and JJJ Radio...

I quite like Miranda from you're 'what we're left with' list.

Another name I heard just a few weeks ago that I liked but have never heard of before was Elke and a name I really like is Eloise.

From your list I like Eleanor, Adelaide and Georgia the best. Eleanor fits well with Angus and Harriet.

What about Elizabeth, Lilliana, Julia, Sophie?
