I really like Rafferty & I'm Australian...I think its going to be more original than Archie if you are looking for something unique. It's a gorgeous name. Good luck deciding, it's so hard isn't it!?![]()
So I posted not long ago, saying that we were choosing between Archie and Lincoln (thank you for your feedback!) and Archie was the hands down favourite and we've kind of gone off Lincoln. But my DH also loves Rafferty and while I haven't warmed to it earlier, I'm actually starting to.
Whenever I run this by friends, everyone says no to Rafferty and yes to Archie, in fact lots of friends really, really hate Rafferty (though I'm trying not to be swayed too much by their opinions!) Weirdly, my DH is from the UK and our UK friends love Rafferty over Archie..bizzare?!
So, what do you think about the boys name Rafferty? Opinions please!
NB If we have a girl we've pretty much picked Arabella Rose, so it's just the boys name we're completely stuck on. We also have a DS called Felix Hugo if this is any help.
THANK YOU!!!

I LOVE Archie, rafferty is an alright name but you have to think of nicnames,
Raffy? Not sure I like it!
Archie just seems like a sweeter name and has a better sound...
And my DH just said Archer is better, didn't give me a proper reason, he just said "it's just better" lol...
I love the name Archie, one of my besties named her son Archie. I'm not a fan a Rafferty at all
I love Rafferty. It's pretty unique, I have only ever met one in my life. He was a full on kid, but very intelligent. I like it better than Archie or Lincoln.
I do like the nickname 'Raff/Raph', not sure I like Rafferty though - maybe Raphael?
i absolutely love Rafferty and i think it goes really well with Felix. Hands down prefer it to Archie.
OK were you reading my mind this morning? Cos I asked DH wht he thought of Rafferty as a name today. weird.
I like it!
Thank you for your feedback - please, please, please keep it coming!
It's funny as I must confess I went onto a UK website a little while ago to get feedback on Rafferty, and they really love the name. Yet here, Archie is such a favourite over Rafferty. I can't figure out why there seems to be such a difference in opinion between the UK and Oz? Mmmm, maybe Jude Law helped to pave the way in the UK, by naming his son Rafferty (..or maybe not?!)
It's encouraging that some of you do like Rafferty, thank you! But I also get what 'MrsBexie' means about Archie sounding like a sweet name, whereas Rafferty is quite a harsh sounding name with all those f's and the t! The thing that's turning us off Archie is that it is getting quite common (that said, I don't know any other Archie?). Given our firstborn is Felix, we do warm to slightly unusual names, so Archie feels a little more 'pedestrian' next to Felix, whereas Rafferty seems to carry the same slightly quirky style that we first loved in the name Felix.
...That may well make no sense, it's hard to articulate the thought process behind names isn't it?!
Tashybabe - that is weird that you're thinking about Rafferty, and even weirder, your signature quote from John Lennon is what I say about...oooh once a day! I love that quote! Why don't we both name our kids Rafferty and start a trend here in Oz!!
Seriously though, please please keep your feedback coming, this is so helpful!! Think I'm more confused than ever, but your honest comments help so much! DH is gunning for Rafferty here on this forum, which is not helping my confusion!!

tashybabe - I just went onto your blog. Wow. Have you got a personal email or something? I went through a loss two years ago and while it was my father, which is less complex than your loss, I wrote some stuff that may or may not be helpful to you right now. You write beautifully about the unimaginable.
Not sure how the PM thing works as I'm new to this. Sorry everyone to hijack my own post with this!
I like Rafferty - some people here might not like it due to Dave Hughes naming his son rafferty but i think it's gorgeous and i think raffy if a cute nickname.
I guy i was seeing years ago was nicknamed Archie... it's a cute name but i prefer Rafferty![]()
I know a Rafferty, he gets Raffy, I really like it!
hahah i love it, but im being bias as its my last name (hence the username 'raffy')![]()
Mmm I prefer Archie. Rafferty sounds like a dogs name. Sorry!
Mmmm, nah sorry! Reminds me of rafferty garden baby food. XD
I'll go against the grain... But I really like Lincoln. It suits a baby and an older man. I can't imagine a 30 year old rafferty.
I'm not sure about it, as in whether I'd use it for me personally. But if I met you with your little boys, Felix and Rafferty, I think they were cool names. I much prefer the NN Raffy to the full name though. I've never actually heard of the name before... apart from the baby food "Rafferty's Garden" and I guess it hadn't occured to me it was a name.
Archie and Lincoln I'm not keen on as they're too popular. Archie is a top 50 name and Lincoln is in the top 100.
I'm not a big fan of Archie honestly but I do like RaffertyI love the nickname of Raff, so cute
