Is it really okay to name child same name as someone you know?

Thanks to all who helped me with name choices if our baby due in two weeks is a girl we have ditched the name Summer Rose Jenner (Jenner surname) and decided on Amelia Rose Jenner as agreed it fits much better with siblings Oliver and Gracie.
However a girl in my mothers group has both an Oliver and an Amelia... is it really okay to choose the same name? We are a close mothers group who meet weekly however the girl in question
with Oliver and Amelia only attends from time to time and last year I saw her only a handful of times. I also know that when she first had her Oliver (unknown to me as our Olivers met in mothers group for babies born at this time) she had picked Grace as the name for the girl, I wonder why she didnt use Grace when she had her girl the next pregnancy was it because I had already had a Gracie a year ealier. It is purely co-incidence we liked the same names, should I be concerned what anyone in mothers group will think?

its not like kids will always be around each other chances are one of you will move. You and her may always be friends but not neccerarly kids.

I think if you love it - go for it. If you feel weird about it - there are heaps of other names to choose from!

Im one of these people that dont like using other peoples kids name....but once im attatched to a name its hard to ditch it.

My DS on the way, his name has part of a friends sons name....but then her DD has a part of my DD's name too...and we think it means we are good with name choices!

The liklihood of you knowing this person in 10 years is pretty low based on how many times you've seen her of late. Use the name you love!!

    Use it!

My best friend of 20 years had a babe last week and her husband had the name Tobias (shortened to Toby) high on his list. Toby is my son's name. I was honoured that they liked it enough to think about naming their son that - not bothered AT ALL!
And I fully expect to be friends with them for another 20 years...at least

I think that it's fine to use that name If you're worried, maybe you could talk to the other mother about it just to give her a heads up...

Also, if you are after a similar name, I quite like Amaleia (the "leia" part pronounced like Princess Leia in starwars, lol). Unfortunately my DH is not a fan of the name so it's off the cards for us if our bubs is a girl.

I'd be rapped if someone thought my son or daughters name was so wonderful that they used it for thier own child. Plus you probably won't end up life long friends if you don't see her much anyway. I wouldn't be worried at all, go for it In say !

I agree, if you love the name use it. A very close friend of mine just called her new baby the same name as my youngest and I wasn't at all upset over it.

I think its ok. The only times I wouldn't do it is if its a nephew or neice with the same name or a really good friend that you see all the time.

One of my close friends in my Mummies group (we meet weekly) just had her DD2 and called her Olivia, same as my DD.

She was paranoid about them having the same name, and kept on saying to me "Are you SURE you don't mind?" and I just kept on reassuring her that I was THRILLED that she liked the name and that my DD hadn't put her off it, LOL!

To be honest, I am really pleased. I love the name, so feel its a bit special to have another beautiful little girl with the same name: it makes me feel proud I picked such a great name!

I wouldn't do, that's just a personal preference but if YOU are feeling OK about it then go for it!

I wouldn't do it either, and I wouldn't want someone to do it to me LOL! But I am VERY funny about names. But if you're fine with it, and the other mother is fine with it I wouldn't worry. Everyone is different so its about what you feel most comfortable with.

i'm another that prefers not to "share" names - not that anyone "owns" them - but i would prefer for my kids to have unique names - especially if you already share one name with the other person, having a "family" of the same names just doesn't do it for me.
