Not a fan, and definitely not for a girl.
Not a fan, and definitely not for a girl.
Hate it - Sounds like an Aussie Bogan name.
I love it![]()
It was on our list of boys names, but I like it for a girl too.
'Love it for a little baby, and an adorable toddler. Pretty cool for a teen. As for a woman in her 30's, or a mum, or even a nana, I'd say no. I just couldn't imagine that name on a grown up, unless she grew up to be an actress or in a band.'
Agree, but by the time Scout grows up there will be many other unusual named 80yr olds!
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favourite books, and I love Scout and Jem (and Atticus) but the name Scout was forever ruined when Demi Moore used it![]()
I loved the book. I loved the character. Hated the movie though but it didn't ruin the book for me. I even had Jeremy high on my boys name list. But definately couldn't name my child Scout. And I haven't a hope of convincing DH to choose a name that isn't in the top 100 from 1980. I might have considered Jean but I don't love it enough to put it on my list.
nah not my cup of tea, sounds like a name I'd give a dog
The name didn't fly with DP!
BOO!
It seems too American for meI don't like it, but for me it's more a boys name if anything.
I loved the book, but I wouldn't use it as a baby name for either gender. It's one of those names that because of it's semi celebrity status (Demi and Bruce have a Scout too) that it's become one of those names only a celeb can use and 'get away with' kwim?
However, I LOVED the second name Edie and would have used that myself if DH liked it, but it reminded him of his grandmothers name and she was an old *****.
ETA - and the thing I've noticed with these uneweusual names is that if their parents are celebs people are more accepting of the name because celebs do kooky shiit all the time, but if it's a regular person who doesn't have a 7 figure bank balance people are like 'WTF drugs were your parents on?'
My beautiful little man is anything but an Aussie Bogan!
Clearly I am EXTREMELY biased but I LOVE IT. Somewhat more "traditional" as a girls name but my Scout rocks his nameand gets loads of positive comments about it.
I am a big fan of "To kill a Mockingbird" and Harper was also in the running before we found out Scout had a willy![]()

Haha, I guess you are right! In 80 years time, there will be mum's on here saying "I suggested Scout but my DH said it was an old fashioned Grandpa name" like we do now with Margaret or Rodney.
In the newspaper yesterday, it said that Brett Kirk (footballer for the Swans(?), maybe ex footballer, no idea really) had a baby boy on Monday and named him Skout..
Feijoa Mum I don't think Amy_Jellybean was trying to insult you or your son, Aimz asked how we felt about the name and she clearly said her honest opinion. We don't all have to like everything and not join in a discussion in the fear that someone will be offended. We're all different and it makes the world interesting![]()
Skout???!With a K?? Now, that's Aussie bogan
