Smile Seeking opinions on boys names

    Hi,

I am expecting my third child, a boy, in about 7 weeks. I would love some feedback on the names we are considering. I find boys names so difficult. My daughter had her name from the 20 week scan, whereas my son didn't get his name until he was 6 days old (and we knew he was a boy from 20 weeks).

My DD's name is Anika, and my DS is Jem (Jeremy).

    Names we are considering:

    Rowan

Ewan (my DH likes this one, I am not so sure)

    Denzel

    Edan

    Possible middle name: Jude
The last name is 2 syllables, ending in 'son'.

I love Oran, but it is my DS's middle name so DH said we can't use it for this bub.

I have been impressed by the constructive comments I have read on this forum, so I would appreciate any assistance. I am also open to name suggestions. Thanks.

Hmmm, my mum's little brothers were R Alan and Alan S - so you can use a previous middle name for a first one if you really love it!

Rowan is quite nice. Not too popular and has a slightly other-worldy feel to it.

Ewan I like, nice and easy to live with.

Denzel... I think of Denzel Washington and I'm not a fan of most films he has been in, bit too serious.

Edan, tbh I'd go with the spelling Eden because of the stress you get growing up when other people decide you can't spell your name like that! And I'm not a big fan of the name Eden, which is growing increasingly popular.

Suggestions... I think Philemon Jude would sound nice. Reuben is a nice name too, but a bit more "earthy" than your other suggestions.

I'm thinking with a last name ...son, you could have John Johnson or Davis Davison or something like that. Or suggest it when your DH doesn't like your other name suggestions LOL!

I love Edan / Eden. It was on my shortlist when we thought we were having a boy, but Hubby didn't want a bar of it as he thought it was a 'hippy name'... well I'm a hippy, what do you expect?!

Out of your suggestions I'd have to say that Rowan would be my pick. It's not too common, and i think its a name that would grow on me with time.
Ewan- sorry, but i just can't get past the similarity of the 'eww' expression- (written, that is). Verbally i don't mind the name. I just think it needs to be spelled differently somehow- Yuan, or something.....
Denzel- again, just can't get past Denzel Washington. He's too famous for me- IYKWIM? Having said that, I loved Ashton for our son and my hubby wouldn't accept because of Ashton Kutcher (damn those celebrities!!). Denzel is a nice name though. Maybe there are variants of it? Maybe you could swap the letters around? Dezlen...??
Eden - I have seen this name suggested a fair bit on the forums. TBH, it just reminds me of gardens and green trees - and the chain of gardening stores called 'Total Eden'.
I actually prefer your spelling of Edan though. It looks less 'treeish' and more masculine to me.
Sorry if any of this offends - I tried to be constructive!! Again- I think Rowan is kinda cool.

I like Rowan and Ewan, but I have a thing about 'w' so would spell Rohan and Euan.

I agree with the suggestion of Reuben, that's really nice.

I *love* Jem as a nn for Jeremy too.

    Seeking opinions on boys names

    Hi,

Thanks so much everyone for your helpful comments and suggestions. I really appreciate it...

I did write a longer post, addressing individuals about their comments. I clicked 'submit reply' and then it was gone. (I don't know what happened to it - and I just can't bear to write it out again! I will blame the fact tbat I am a newbie).

Anyway, as long as you all know that your comments have been useful and appreciated!

    Ally.
