Dutch spelling is nice, not silly. Its not like you are spelling it Peetre or something.
Based on your other kids names I'd go with Rebecca as the spelling
We like the name Rebekah followed by Ruth but there are so many ways to spell it
Rebekah
Rebecca
Rebbeca
Rebbecca
Rebekka
our other children are
Greg (Gregory)
Tash (Natasha)
Nick (Nicholas)
Annabelle (Belle)
Samuel (Samuel)
Daniel (Daniel)
I am not sure if we will shorten it to Bekka or leave it at the full name.
A boy is easy .. I think..
Matthew Pieter
Although my FIL will probably argue it is Mathew Peter as in ONE T in Matthew and no silly spelling. My dutch uncle who I love is on his deathbed so I am naming a boy Pieter in honour of him.

I am a Rebecca...my family always called me Becca. But as I got older it was Bec. I always believed that the H was more of the hebrew religious name and with Ruth another biblical name
my name is also Rebecca, in 1980 the year I was born it was one of the most popular names for girls, I never had a class at school with less than 3 of us with the same name!
Due to that I wanted to be different and played around with the spelling, starting with Rebekah, then moving on to Rebeker, I never saw another with that spelling! also used to get asked a lot if it was German or dutch??! I have now reverted back to the "classic" spelling of Rebecca, most people call me Beck or Becky.
oh and my Nanna's name is Ruth Rebecca.![]()
Awww my fav girls name! My mum wanted to call me Rebecca but dad poo poo'd it! Funny how now I would have it on my list!!!
I prefer it spelled like Rebecca
Your other children all have classic spelling of their names, so I based my preference on that.
Yeah, I agree to spell it traditionally like your other kids names
My SIL is Rebecca, or Becci![]()
I love Rebecca - spelling it the classic way. It definitely fits with all the other siblings, and is the most 'pleasing' to my eye (of course, that's just me lol)I've always had to repeat my name and spell it out to people, so the classic spelling is much more likely to avoid that issue later in life.
My thought on shortening names, is to put the 'full' or traditional name on the birth cert, and then use whatever name you like for the child - in this case, if you know you're more fond of a 'pet' version of Rebecca, then just pop 'Rebecca' on the birth certificate and then call her Beccie, Becca, Bec etc from the get-go. That way, when she grows up she at least has the option of using the 'grown-up' version as it *is* her name, kwim? Like for job applications etc, she can put 'Rebecca Smith' on her resume instead of 'Becky Smith', as potential employers are probably more likely to warm to a classic name than a 'nickname'![]()
Good luck! FWIW I think the Dutch spelling of Pieter to honour your uncle is lovely - poo to DH!
Thank you so much for all your replies.
Tash was Natasha right up til the moment she was born lol. Then all her life she has been either Tash or Tasha.
I think we'll go with the traditional spelling of Rebecca.
My other choice of name was Matilda but I got that much flack from that name choiceAnd also Charlotte.
But if it is a girl which I think it is then Rebecca Ruth![]()
I like Rebekah, it's the biblical Hebrew way of spelling it.
I would go with Rebecca![]()
I am going against the grain and saying I like the traditional spelling (Rebecca is the modern spelling!) and go with the Hebrew spelling of Rebekah. Gorgeous!
A family friend is Rebekah, and I love the way it's spelt! She shortens it to Bek. One of her brothers is Matthew (with 2 T's). I thought that was how you actually spell it.
My mums side of the family is Dutch, so I love Pieter, but Peter is my dad's name (and it's not fair to use my dad's name and not dh's dad's name).
I am a Rebecca and i have 2 SIL's Rebecca (yep there are 3 of us!!) DH Sister is Rebecca Anne, I'm Rebecca Ann and DH's Brothers Wife is Rebecca Jane. (confusing at Christmas!!) lol and we all get called Bec. Also my MIL Is a Ruth and Her MIL is also a Ruth!! lol
But i love the names Rebecca and Ruth, altho i have been banned in using either name for our little girl when she comes along!![]()
I think spelt Rebecca for your little one would tie in perfectly with her brothers and sisters.
I have a friend Rebekah and she refers to herself as Beck (spelt that way) !!
... i have to say i also prefer it spelt Rebecca (so much easier to spell) and i think looks better with your other children's name spellings![]()
Well my name is Rebecca and I like the way it's spelt.
It's a classic name, I prefer the classic spelling personally.
My SIL is also Rebekah but spells it different... Lol.
I shorten to Bex as a nickname, and my SIL gets Becca or Bek
I prefer Rebekah
