Amy we're a bit stuck on middle names... some options are:
Helen (my Nanna's middle name, always wanted to use it somewhere but DH isn't convinced)
Ruby
Rose (DH doesn't like but I do!)
...
Suggestions? What sounds nice with Erica?

I think it would be fine. I have the same name as my aunt, and that's never been a problem, so I don't think having the feminine form of her grandfather's name will be either.
I love Erica Helen. Erica Rose is pretty, but Rose is very popular as a middle name, and since Erica is a short name, I think it sounds better with a slightly longer middle name. What about Erica Rosalie?
I think it's nice too. My brother and SIL have used all the grandparent's names in their childrens' names (middle names) and they were all chuffed. (but bro and SIL have had 6 kids, so they had plenty of names to go round LOL!)
If you really like Rose as a middle name, keep at your DP - you'll convince him eventually
Amy I love Erica Lily but we already have a Lily in the family!!
To throw a spanner in the works - my mum has declared that if I name the baby "after Eric" she will be offended and think that I am playing favourites!
Hey OP - I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. I think Erica/Erika is a really pretty name and I get the whole changing of your FIL's name from Eric to Grandpa thing but I was going to wonder if, for your DP, it might not be a little bit weird to have his daughters name be so close to his fathers? Would you want to call your baby a name that was very close to your own mother or fathers name?
I'm not saying this is automatically an issue but perhaps is why your DH is unconvinced about Erica.
Having said all of that, and I realise your mum is raising the opposite issue of feeling left out, I truly believe that if you and your DH like a name, you should use it. This is your child, no one elses and EVERYBODY will have an opinion. Like you said, you can't please everyone (and nor should you try!).
