I used to watch the smurfs as a kid and I couldn't remember the cats name, you all either have really good memories or is it because of the new(ish) smurfs movie?

Me too Tanya. I watched Smurfs and don't remember the name. Gargamel, yes. Not Azriel. Haven't seen the newish smurf stuff.

Azriel had me immediately thinking a cross between Azaria and Arielle. I had no idea that it was an angel.

I didn't know the smurfs thing but I quite like the name. Although my first thought was that it was for a girl, maybe that's because of the name Ariel

With regards to the smurfs thing...people now might remember it, but your baby is going to grow up with a different set of cartoons and I would hazard a guess and say that the kids he will grow up with won't know who that character is.

I think of the Smurfs too, although I am pretty sure that it was spelled differently there...

I personally think that it is an odd name to use because of the Angel of Death thing - yes, death is a natural part of life and not necessarily a negative thing, but I think it's a bit of a heavy thing to call a child iykwim. jmo.

One of DS's little friends is called Azrael, at first I thought of the smurfs but only for a second and he hardly gets called by his full name ever, he's Az or Azzy to everyone.. I like it
