i am planning on getting a new pram that goes single or double, simply cos i cant wear DS or more than half hour, no matter what carry/wrap/carrier i use and he gets sick of walking in about 20 steps. figure he will get used to walking in a few months so i will be able to use the new pram as a single when i need.
im still drooling over this wrap i saw in a demo vid the other day, girasol gaia. its just gorgous!!!
I used the pram for the first time on Monday when I took DD2 to work. It was for while she was awake, because she prefers to sleep on my back! Ppl must have thought I was completely weird pushing my laptop bag along the Quay while DD2 watched everything from my back! Got lots of comments on how happy she looked though.
Yay Sterla! I've found my butterflies is very easy to do a double hammock back carry. So it's not just the wrapper but what you're using, in my limited experience.
Epacris told me another good back carry today but I've forgotten its name already. She's also doing some breaking in for me on my Oscha shortie.
There's a hip carry with a longer wrap that I've got earmarked for Jim when he gets here! I'm keen to try some new carries but I keep resorting to my faves. I think as she gets bigger I'll be more adventurous. I did like the Jordan back carry, so thanks to whoever suggested that one. I prefer to keep my bbs clear because I'm scared of blocked ducts, so with a heavier wrap that one's better than the double hammock.
I'm unco at getting her up on my back and off is easy, CK! I think it's a size thing, she's only little so scooting her under my arm down is still easy, but perching her on my back not so much.
I managed to wrangle DD onto my back in the ergo for a quick trip into the shops yesterday. Because of my bump I had to sling it low so she was sitting much lower than usual and was clearly unhappy about it... so she started biting me between my shoulder blades. *sigh* I think the ergo will have to be hung up til Pud arrives.
I have been playing with the beautiful wrap MadB loaned me - trying hip carries and am determined to have another go at a back carry this weekend. I don't feel comfortable slinging DD over my shoulder - now that I have done it once I feel confident passing her under my arm so I'll keep working on that.
That's cool pixie, either way is fine - just note that they often end up a bit low when you do it that way, so you might have to nudge her up a bit. You could also encourage her to climb on your back herself. That works with my DD (at least some of the time).
I bought a Manduca yesterday. I've just compared it to my Ergo and I'm a little bewildered...
Why do I find the Manduca infinitely easier to use, and more comfortable? There's not that many differences in the two carriers, yet I've always struggled with the Ergo. Using the Manduca for a back carry (which I originally bought the Ergo for) felt so much simpler...
The only real differences I can tell in the structure is that her legs are better positioned in the Manduca, and some of the straps can be adjusted in two directions rather than one (iykwim). But the difference in comfort isn't related to either of those - it seems to not dig into my belly as much, even though the strap there is the same width! Wth?
I always wondered the diff between them. Looked the same. Couldn't find any retail outlet that stocks manduca for me to try when I was looking. Mind you I don't think I looked too hard either.

I bought an ergo today! I love that I can feed DS in it, could never get the hang of it in the HAB. After a gigantic discussion with DH about how we need to expand our colour range we ended up buying a black one. Le sigh.
DH tried DS in the back carry but poor boy was unhappy, we're hoping if we try it a bit around the house he'll get used to it?
I think I almost managed to convert my friend from her baby bjorn to the ergo today. I insisted she try on my performance before we went to the baby and toddler show today then dragged her to the ergo stand as well. She sounded pretty convinced but is still going to think about it for a while.
Teni - it's just different carriers for different folks. The Manduca does look very tempting, I've seen a couple of demos lately.
pixie - Can you carry high, above your bump? I haven't really thought about how I'll babywear while pregnant! I'm an over-the-shoulder girl, and DD loves it. But I've always been pretty confident about rough play and upside-downsies.
Jen - Jim is in the post! He's ace for hip carries. He ain't no Vat 3 (I cannot even begin to explain how much I regret selling that) but he's pretty good. My DH only uses the pram for groceries and stuff. When DD was tiny, she hated the pram, awake or asleep, so he would pop her in the Close, then push the pram up to the farmers markets, and bring all the vegies home in it, getting plenty of comments about how he must have his hands full. Which he did. Full of fresh produce.
What would be the advantage/difference of a size 3 when I have a 2 and a 4? I'm tempted by a wool/cotton blend, but I have a cotton 4 and linen 2. The wool blend looks lovely and soft. What does everyone else honk of wool blends?
the manduca looks like it's a different shape...? don't know. I've only tried two SSCs and declared myself a buckle-hater (I'm sure there's one out there that's perfect for me, but I can't be bothered kissing all the frogs).
I love my Ravenna. mmmm. she's so snuggly. M still prefers geck-gecks. She napped with it the other day
KF was your DS sitting quite low? I found the ergo carries low on the back - maybe if the waist buckle is done up higher he might be happier? or anyway it can take some getting used to if they've not been up there before.
ETA - oh, that one that's been for sale for a while? why don't you get it and see? I've been wondering about a wool blend, but I dunno.... Also wondering about a 3.... lol I sold all my shorties! silly me.
I ordered a Manduca today . They said it should be there in a couple of weeks. I was going to get an ergo but didn't like the infant insert, it seemed painful. So the Manduca won with infant seat inbuilt. I can't wait to use it .
