Still quite new to Babywearing and wondering where you learn all the brand names and wrap types and carries. Is there some kind of website somewhere that has a summary?

The woven wraps database is useful for that - though I picked up a fair bit of it by going "ooooh that's pretty, what is it?"

Tried a new carry today at the shops I didn't get it quite right - I was meant to spread the last few passes but it wasn't working so I bunched them - but it was so good to do something different With a bit more practise it might become my go-to carry!

Still waiting on Milky Way I thought it would arrive today, so I'm a bit crushed seeing all these photos on FB of people enjoying theirs. Stoopid Aus Post

    Hi girls,

So I have been out of the slings/carriers loop for awhile.

Wondering what the latest with in regards to the best carrier? I want something really comfortable and easy to put on. What do you all recommend?

I went to a baby shop but they weren't much help.

I love my ergo. I have used it for both my babies from birth and breastfeeding is also easy.

Does anyone have the Indigo Milky Way yet? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm also wanting to know what others think of them.

Phebee - the easiest way to learn is to actually come to a meet and see things in action. OTherwise it's all too theoretical (and utterly confusing)

alibaby - it depends what you want. What have you used before? Does something with buckles appeal? are you open to tying things? Is it more for little baby or to be used later as well?

    Thanks babylove and MadB.

I think I would need it for the first year. After that, I think baby will be to heavy for me. I have really big boobies too so there is already strain on my back.

When I had DD 4 years a go, I was given a baby bjorn which I used once and never again, after hearing how bad they were. I has a sling, but sold that. I can't remember what brand it was but I could never get Dd in a good position in it and always felt like she would fall out.

I don't mind tying something up but def want something that will be good for my back.

if you've a bad back, myabe something 2-shouldered, as opposed to a sling?
A soft-structured carrier (ergo is one, there are many, many others) will last well into toddlerdom - you can simply swing them round to your back when they're a bit bigger. much comfier and convenient.
mei tais are also 2-shouldered adn offer good support, front & back, but you tie rather than clipping buckles. Actually not really any more complicated to use (some people find them a bit daunting at first, but it's all just a matter of trying and practicing a bit). If you can get along to a sling meet in your area to see a few things in action, that might be your best bet.

I prefer wraps - they're totally adjustable so will fit comfortably for anyone, can be used through till toddler years, front/side/back. very versitile. they do require a bit more learning and practice, however.

bjorns are not all that comfy - and most people wouldn't be able to carry beyond 3-6 months - they also don't really provide optimal positioning for baby's hip/spine development.

MadB are you on Perth Baby Wearers? If so, who are you? PM me if you don't want to say publicly. I'm NOR but I can't make the meets this month, except maybe central.
