    27 month old - speech

DS is 27 months and I'm not 'worried' about his speech as such, but sometimes I find it hard to understand him.

His words are not very clear. For milk he says moot, and today he's beeing playing with a ladle and it's just an 'adle', plane is 'mane' and car is 'dar'.....when he says there it's like he's saying 'blergh' complete with sticking out the tongue!

He also has a lisp.......and stutters a bit....like he wants to sqeeze the words out of his mouth coz he can say them in his head but can't ge them out of his mouth!

    IS HE NORMAL!!!!!??

He says things in sentences and he can get across what he wants, but I guess it's the pronounciation of things that aren't right.

I am constantly talking to him and I read him at least 6 books a day (we love books!) am I just being daft and expecting too much!?

are there any speech probs in the family babes?
Remember that boys and girls all develop differently and each child is different too.

My DD is 29 months and i think she will have a stutter like me. She goes through phases of stuttering. She will say like "nnnnnnnnnnnnnno" or "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabi" but she is okay atm. DD is stringing words together and forming sentences, even though they are not correct, you can still understand her. She will say "me go ishing" (fishing) or "come abi (brother in turkish) play outside". There are words which i cannot comprehend and she becomes frustrated.

Taking you DS to a speech therapist is probably too early as he is so young. Do you correct what he says? When he says "mane" do you say "no,plane" and get him to say it with you?

It is frustrating i know. We all want our little ones to be the perfect children with no imperfections. I hear you on how you are feeling. As a parent with a stutter, having a speech defect is so hard in life.

    xxoo

    Thanks TD

I didn't have any speech issues....i was singing the entire alphabet at my Uncles wedding before I was just 2 (my Mum tells that story to EVERYONE saying how I haven't changed!!) but my little sister had a lisp when she was little.....which my Mum helped her out of.

Yeah I always repeat it back to him properly and kind of overpronounce it so he can see what I'm doing with my mouth.

Poor little guy gets a bit frustrated at times because I just don't GET what he is trying to say. He doesn't stop jabbering though which I suppose is a good thing.

I hear you.....we want them to be perfect! Sigh! I'm sure he'll be alright

My DS was like you too, he was singing the alphabet by 2 too, but all kids are different. My DD doesn't though.

I guess all you can do atm is just keep at it, but get him to speech therapist if you are really concerned.

He is still very young remember!
