My DS1 will be 3 at the end of this month and i was just wondering how many 3 year olds still have a day sleep? My DS1 has always been a great sleeper and quite happily goes off for his day sleep still. But before Christmas he was having 3-4 hr sleeps and now he's having 1.5ish hours a day. I think it may just be the excitement of Christmas and all his new toys but still i was just wondering how much longer his day sleep may last?
my 3.5 yr old still has 2 hrs sleep (sometimes a little more) religiously every single day. She's feral by 5pm if she misses it! I guess some people (children included) need more sleep than others! My almost 2 yr old needs less than her older sister (unfortunately for me!!)
Bailey was 3 in Sept and we have a rule! Each day he either goes to bed and has quiet time (reading books in bed.....usually falls asleep!!!) with his sleepy time music on OR big boy rest time on the lounge normally watching his Cars DVD and most days he falls asleep too!
His day at preschool, I have asked them to get him to sleep or if he does not fall asleep just a rest for 30 mins......which normally means a sleep!
He resists mosts days although I win! (Thanks you Disney Pixar for making the movie Cars!!!) I think he likes that his little bro is asleep (1 - 3 hr sleep @ 20 months) and he has Mummy and on weekends - Daddy all to himself! lol
My friends ds turned 4 in Sep still sleeps most days for around an hour! Lucky thing!!!
My ds stopped sleeping before his 3rd birthday, but we still ensure he has a 'rest'. I find he needs it to get through the rest of the afternoon. Might only be for 45mins or so but just some quiet time after lunch to wind down before we're on the go again.
In answer to your question, I'd say your time is limited. Enjoy what may be the last couple of months of sleep and prepare to instill 'rest time'!
The feedback is great. I must admit i love it when i get the sleeps timed together and i get some peace and quiet to eat lunch. I was just wondering how long it would last still and trying to prepare myself for the fact that it may not last too much longer.
We very rarely miss the sleep so even at 3 DS1 just understands it as being part of his day i think. Some days there may be a bit of a struggle but it doesn't last for long and he goes down eventually.
Be it 3 hrs or 1.5 hrs it's still something right!?!
Still having day sleeps here... and he's 4 in March. Goes without at preschool for 2 days a week, so it's not essential that he has one every day... but pretty much every day he happily goes off for a sleep.
We are unusual tho, our day sleeps are at 11.00/11.30 and they both sleep until 1-ish. Or sometimes it's from 12 - 2 or something. So they usually have a late lunch! But then they're both ready to go to bed by 7.30 each night. If it gets to 1 or 2 oclock and he hasn't slept, I keep him up. Afternoon sleeps equal cranky cranky boy when he wakes up and then he goes to bed late that night. So it has to be at 11am. Kayla will have an afternoon sleep if we've missed the lunchtime sleep.
I'm certainly not keen for either of them to give up that sleep just yet.. I looooove my quiet time LOL.
My almost-3-year-old dropped his day sleep a few months ago - unfortunately! He's a hugely busy kid, always on the go, all the time, so I was surprised he did. He's usually feral and cranky by 4-5pm now, but I find if he does happen to fall asleep during the day (which he does occasionally, but not very often) he can still be crawling the walls around 9-10pm so DH & I have decided we'd rather deal with the late afternoon feralness, than the late night (as we're up at 5.30am every morning).
I really miss the quiet time I used to get between lunch and 3pm while he had a nap, but it seems he is at that inbetween stage where he gets too tired without a sleep, but with a sleep, its too much. Not only that, he seems to have his body clock set to wake up at 5.30am every single morning, and its been quite hard lately! He loves to waltz in and loudly announce "its daytime mummy, GET UP!"
