    Question ALAN help?? anyone?

Well i have posted before and have been getting a little concerned over the last couple of nights.

Ashley gets a lot of wind and i have been givingher 10 drops of infants friend maybe 2 or 3 times at night (say 6pm, 12am and 4am). She has huge explosive yellow poos - you hear it pop and squirt from across the room - sorry tmi!. i tried not to give it one night and she seems to cry in so much pain.

Anyhoe during the day she is sleeping some days (awake a lot others). But her cry has changed, it is very dry and high pitched now - almost like she cant breathe. i had a little listen to her chest and her lungs sound fine, clear with equal air entry.

During the day i will carry her in the sling and put her down to sleep on her back and she sleeps without a sound! But at night between say 10pm-7am when she sleeps you can hear her strain, and hold her breath until she goes purple/red and arches her back and flings her limbs around (if we swaddle her she screams cause she wants to kick her legs and arms). The sound she makes is so painful and like she cant breathe- and this can carry on for up to an hour post feed . She is also not feeding as long at night - perhaps 5-10 minutes every 3-4 hours.

I just dont know why she carrys on like that at night but not during the day. Would it b because it is colder? we have her in a long sleeve onesie, a fleecy lined romper then a bunny rug over her. Her little hands are like ice even with mittens on.

we have her 6 week check up coming up but i am worried there might be something wrong and get scared she will hold her breath too long one night. Should i see someone sooner or is this normal for newborns behaviour to change from day to night?

thanks any help or advice is appreciated!

Yep I would get her looked at sooner as well. Have a look at the reflux forums & the symptoms. In the meantime as well try & put her cot on an incline so pop a blanket up the top so her head is higher than her feet. This helps with reflux as laying flat is very painful (it helps those stomach acids come up).

Christy - this is what i dont understand. SHe is flat on her back during the day when she sleeps but at night it is a problem... would rather sleep over our shoulder on on our chest (on her belly).
I am going to take her to the dr's this arvie and see what they say.

I think its a good idea to go to the doc today and get things checked.
Do you burp her after each feed? does she bring up any wind?

    She is very windy!!
the dr said she is fine and the reason for all the fussing is because she feeds frequently (2hrly) during the day up till bedtime then she dropped back to 3-4 hrly overnight and everything is pushed through - hence why her bowel patterns are more overnight - therefore causing the pain and fussing.

i don't have any advice for you other than to reassure you not to worry about her holdng her breath when she is crying, the worst that can happen is she will hold her breath so long that she passes out, by passing out the body naturally starts breathing normally straight away. If she did pass out it would only be for a second. Goodluck i hope you get her sorted very soon you poor thing!
