What a great idea, Cheryle! I'm going to do that in our car for all three of us. We have so many problems health-wise in our little family it would be worth doing it for allergies et cetera as well as NoK.

I have tinted rear windows too; DH hates the stick-on roller shade things so was very keen when he saw the tinted windows when buying the car.

Bath, if someone isn't driving perfectly I don't get cross with them. If someone hits me then I do! I am not perfect, I am not a perfect driver, I do not expect others to be. But a "baby on board" sign doesn't make me happier with bad drivers. It makes me think they know they are going to behave poorly on the roads - so no excuse! I don't know when I go out if I'm going to be blinded by flashing headlights or not, that would be a reason for slightly off driving. Knowing you cannot drive with a baby in the car and doing it anyway is most vexing. As well as dangerous.

And if children are fighting, my parents used to pull over and make us apologise for holding up the journey. We weren't allowed out the car until we apologised. We'd miss a day out if we didn't behave. OK it affects the whole family but it teaches the lesson quickly! (I do sometimes think my parents were a bit strict on some things, given how young we were, but it does work and by junior school we rarely argued in a car and senior school not at all, not unless I was driving anyway but that's a whole nother story.)

They're definitely not law and I don't see the point in them, it shouldn't make you or the people around you slow down. People aren't going to see it and think oh we'll let them off for going too slow etc

I've got one on my car- it says 'Little Dude on Board'. Got it at my baby shower and I thought it was cute- in fact, I stuck it on the car while I was pregnant because the little dude was on board then too!

I just thought they were a cheesy novelty item. I think they are a bit tacky and I wont have one near my car.

I must admit I thought the same as Trillian!! Each to their own I guess as to whether you think it's cute or not so no offence intended to anyone. As a kid, from primary school onwards my mother had one in her car that said "mum's taxi". That's probably why I thought they were a novelty item.

It's probably not nice of me but I tend to get more irritated by careless driving if the car has one of those signs. They're a bit 'holier-than-thou' if the driver is not following road rules (but I never considered the child might be crying so I will try to remember that next time). All lives are equally important.

It's definitely not law to have one and I'd like to think that emergency services are trained to properly check that all living things are out of a wrecked car after an accident. That should include pets that may have been in the car too and you don't see signs for them.

I can say with 100% factual knowledge it is not the law...

I can also say (as a traffic police officer who educates other police officers and members of the public alike) - that in SA - we don't even look for those signs on the rear of cars when we attend crashes. We work from the information provided in the tasking (where a person calls in to report a crash, they're asked how many occupants, etc)...

I would like to hope that people do take extra care on our roads if they see a 'baby on board' sign, but to my knowledge no study has been conducted to ascertain this...
