Hey all just wondering what is the best thing to do when your baby has a cold, my dd is 8 months old and has a cough that seems to be worse at night, a runny nose, and runny eyes, and she is not too keen on her feeds at the moment

I'm not sure if Dimetapp is OK for such a young bub we give it to our little man (19 months old) at night to help him breathe when he gets a cold (he's just getting over one), you could check with your Pharmacist. Also we rub some Vicks on his chest. He had a nasty cold when we were in the UK at Christmas, he was 9 months old, and instead of putting the Vicks on his skin we put some on a hanky and put the hanky between his singlet and his jumpsuit. It helps to clear the stuffy nose and lets them sleep better. Maybe try giving some Panadol to help with the aches and pains.

It's awful I know when your bub gets sick and like your's our little guy always gets a cough when he picks up a cold.

A vapouriser or failing that take her into the bathroom with you & steam her! Try to raise the head of her cot a little bit, phone books under the legs or a pillow under the mattress. If she is bringing up any stuff when she's coughing it's best not to give her medicine to suppress it as she's far better off getting the rubbish out of her lungs. If she has any green mucus take her off to the Dr as she might have an infection.

Thanks guys, I have actually raised her mattress to help with the coughing, and thankfully I managed to get her into the docs this afternoon, which is usually impossible, I just hate seeing her feeling this way and not being able to do anything at least she is still smiling
