Getting stains out of newborn clothes

Hey everyone,

So last night i decided to pull out everything I had spacebaged of DS, to put the little stuff into drawers, and the bigger stuff into plastic tubs, as spacebags weren't really doing it for us

Anyway, i washed everything before i put it away, but especially with the newborn stuff (0000 and 000), it has all come out horribly stained, and i'm sure they weren't so bad when i put it away...

It's like there are all these yellow puke stains on it, my mum says that they come out from being stored away for some reason.

If i soak it all in colourfast napisan, will they look a bit better? Or will just a normal wash do? Or do i need to spray stain remover on it all? I would prefer to use the least amount of chemicals on them as possible, even with extra rinses, i never feel it gets out completely.

Everyone in cloth nappy land swears by sunshine as a natural stain lifter on nappys. Maybe just a good wash and hang out in the sun??? I have lots of hand me downs with milk stains on the singlets etc and am going to try this as I dont really want to load the fabric up with detergents.

I too would give them a wash in Amolin and hang in the sun.

Dont Put Them Through The Clothes Dryer

I dont know if anyone else has had this happen but when i tried to remove a stain from one of DS little jackets that got pushed under the car seat when we were unpacking the car, was there for awhile before i came across it so stain was not nice, I did the amolin wash but it was raining so i put it through the clothes dryer and was upset to find that the stain was worse than when it came out of the wash!! and i have had no luck removing it Gorgeous jacket so thinking of dyeing it.

This has never happened to anything else though and i put almost all of DS clothes in the dryer, so i dont know why it did it??

Yael I pulled all our stuff out last week and noticed the exact same thing. Caro is right, it's more than likely milk that turns yellow over time when the clothes are stored away.

Just wash them as normal in Amolin (or lux flakes, or whatever you use for bubs clothes) and hang them directly in the sun for the day - the sun will remove the stains 99% of the time. It's worked on all of my stuff so far.

Thanks for the advice guys - its just funny cos it was all washed before it went away, so i wouldn't have thought there would have been any milk on it...

Its not sunny today, but hopefully it will be tomorrow!

Sometimes the milk stains the fabric even when it comes out after being washed iykwim? I find that with Paris' old stuff. And I was sure I washed it before packing. Its weird hey!

I did our stuff last week using napisan. Napisan is great. It gets pretty much anything out.

I'm yet to wash the stuff my sister gave to me...some of it is James' old baby clothes...I'm going to soak everything in Napisan for a couple of days first though. Some of them have yack marks on them as my gorgeous little niece was a bit of a vomity baby.

Just a tip....I used to have two nappy buckets with napisan solution made up (one for whites and one for colours), as soon as James' clothes came off his body, they'd go straight in there until they got washed. That seemed to catch the stains before they set and his clothes were relatively stain-free.

I made a paste out of napisan and a little water...the consitancy was like thick, grainy Clag glue...Put the paste on the stain until it almost dries up, but not compleatly. Wash in whatever detergent you use, and dry in full son. My son's clothes had been in storage for 4 years, and I did this when it came time to get the stains out for this baby. Worked perfectly.

Another thing you can try is spraying them with preen and letting them sit for a little bit. Then soak in cold water. Dont use hot water when soaking, even with nappy san, as it will help set the stains in the clothes. Then, as the others have said, hang it in the sun.

I have to agree with the people who mentioned sunshine. I had a few outfits that went through the wash and came out still with stains. I hung them up outside and then went to show my hubby the stain still on some of the clothes and there was not a mark. It also rained so I wonder if the rain and sun combined????? Anyway good luck with getting out the marks.
