    Baby Einstein

I know a number of you have brought Baby Einstein products, I`m wanting to buy one of the DVD`s for Matthew, what would you recommend to be a good one for his age group, he`s 4 months old.

    TIA

We have a range of the DVD's and I and Matthew love them. I think any of the dvds would be okay. I like the Numbers, Colours and Animal Nursery ones but I think any really would be okay.

The DVD's are for use from birth to 3 years.

We haven't got any of the toys so can't help you there. Also check out their website.

Hannah has been given 3 Baby Einstein DVDs. She's too young for the "Baby Neptune" one and doesn't seem interested in it at all (it's not targeted at her age group), but she also has the Right Brain and Left Brain ones (thanks Ambah!). She is transfixed by the right brain one! She sits in her high chair (fully tilted back) to watch it. I only have her in front of it for 10 mins at a time though..her attention span is pretty short at this age. I am sure she is learning something though - even if it's just enjoying the classical music and watching the pretty colours and movement. Haven't tried out the Left brain one yet however.

Not sure about the baby einstein toys, but Hannah has a couple of cool leap frog toys that are also aimed at teaching them things at certain stages of development. She has "Baby Tad" which is a plush toy frog that plays and sing nursery songs, as well as classical music, and teaches shapes and colours; and she has the "Baby Counting Pal" - which is a catterpillar soft toy that teaches numbers, classical music (and even says the names of the composers before it plays the tunes) and teaches colours. It's designed for 3 months plus because it doubles as a stroller bar and has little things that hang of it that baby can play with (things that crinkle, and rattle etc). The songs that teach them colours are all played in different musical styles too - there's rock, opera, barbershop, jazz, and reggae. So cool. Hannah loves both of these, and we play with them together (I am learning to sing the songs!). You can imagine who is having more fun at this point though. I think Hannah just enjoys watching me enjoying myself!

Yeah I have found the Brainy Baby- Left and Right brain DVDs to be quite good. I don't know if they were made by the 'Baby Einstein' company or not, but you will usually find them in the same section.
Aidyn didnt watch his until he was a bit older - about 11 months, as thats when we got a copy off a friend, but he totally LOVES them and gets very excited and stimulated by them, and I think they would also be pretty interesting to a younger baby as well...

The flash cards sound cool, I will have to check them out!

We have the flash cards and they are great and Olivia loves them, but I have realised something.............they make a hell of a mess!!

I am a self admitted neat freak, but I realised the other day that the flash cards do exactly the same as a big colourful board book, but a book is simply easier to manage and neater and doesn't get strewn under the couch and end up at all ends of the house!!

So, I have "hidden" the flash cards for the moment, and sorted out a whole load of Olivia's books and now she has her own special bookshelf instead......which she can help herself from.....(she has literally 100's of books, so I have picked out all of the colourful "flash card" type books)

I sound anal, but I would much rather her bring me a book and sit with her and go through it 100 times than pick up those bloody flash cards off the floor even once!!

Thanks for posting about the DVD's Dee i too am interested in the response.

As for the toys i have bought Hendy one einstein toy and he loves it!! I got him a mirror which has sea creatures all around it and a turtle that when pushed says 'peek a boo, i see you', its really cute except for the american accent, but it is a childs voice so not too bad. He obviously cant press it yet but loves staring into it and chatting.

LOL Lucy. How are you going to cope with 2 toddlers running around making mess!!
I get soooooo bored with books reading them in the same order. I guess with flashcards I can muddle them up and the order will always be different!

Those brainy dvd's sound good. Damn it - always things to spend moeny on!

Dee - I bought Gabby the language one and the numbers one. I have saved the numbers one for Christmas but play her the language one all the time. It says on the box that it's for 1 year and up but she seems to respond really well. There's visually stimulating things on the screen whilst people speak in all different languages - words and songs. Gabby stares at it and really responds to the French the most, LOL.

Thank you girls for the feedback, I went to K Mart today and brought 2 DVD`s for Matthew, one is for his age group but the other one is from 9 months, so I`ll put that one away for Christmas.

LOL Lucy but I can understand where your coming from, a book would be easier to handle then cards being thrown everywhere.

Heather - I saw that mirror on the www and thought Matthew would love it but then if it has an American accent I might have to rethink

LOL Fi @ Jenna getting square eyes, I`m sure your not going to plonk here in front of telly 24 hrs a day so she`ll be fine.

Nell - I remeber you saying you and Matthew love them.

Ambah - I will have to check out Brainy Baby, I didn`t see any in K Mart today but then they didn`t have too many Baby Enistein DVD`s either.

    Take Care

    Lucy,

You could put the flashcards into a photo album (clear slide pockets on either side) or something like it, that way she can still look at them.

I know they're not exactly photo - pocket size though, that may be the only problem.... Just a thought.

Keenan has the flashcards (nature and animals), a bath book, a numbers/counting book and I'm waiting to get some DVD's.
