Im in Sydney so cant really help with OBs, but we had Jesse done at 4 weeks (the cut off age). I know alot of OBs wont book you in until the babys born incase its not a boy and you forget to cancel.. but you can always try. The OB we went to did them every 15 minutes and they fitted us in fine.
We just went to our local GP who had a list of doctors in the area that did it (you have to get a referral anyways), so your doc may be able to give you a few numbers?

Jesse had the plastibell. I think i prefer it that way myself. From what my dad was telling me when they had my brother done (we're talking 30 years ago though), he just had the snip and they had to keep re-dressing it etc. With the plastibell it just falls off in a few days and underneath heals up by then, you just have to apply vaseline each nappy change.

    Best of luck anyways

My OB told me the only Dr is in Hamilton and he will only do it at 6 months, I will see what I can get him to do when I see him next for a referal to a Dr of my choice...I just want to have all my options sorted out before Noah is born so I don't have to scramble later. There is no doubting he is a boy either hehe I didn't think babies had such big ones. Maybe they grow into them?

I just had a search on the net.. "circumcisions VIC".. and heres a number:

Ouch!!! $490 from circumwise, they do the plastibell method and currently have a 2 week wait but the longest wait is 4 weeks usually, I somehow now do not agree with the statistic of less that 10% of the male population being circ'ed..

Well, I might have found a place in Horsham after all!!! I am going to take a stroll to the med clinic to find out for myself! We have a fair few muslim docs at a clinic here and apparently muslims get circ'ed, be back to let you know the verdict!

Yeppers, I called a hospital on my boyfriends fathers advice and was passed through a few medical clinics and last week a doctor started working in Horsham that does it for $150 the good old fashioned snip method.

Mr North was very reasonable price, it was $131 with the plastibell method and the receptionist was very helpfull.

I never got onto Dr Goldman but with the high recomendations he has, it would have been my #1 choice.

Wow, I hope the next one is a girl.....

Remember you do get a rebate from Medicare for it. I think from memory Jesse's was about $250 and i got around $98 back. But $490! wow thats some big bucks for them if they do them as often as my OB did!
My wait for Jesse was 2 weeks too.. i think he only did them 2 days a week but every 15 minutes and there are others in my area.. i think theres a big amount of the population that are still done... but we're not going to get into that debate again

    Well best of luck Sarah

Thanks, no we don't want that debate, I stayed out of that one and just asked my questions and avoided the argument. This Doctor is 2 days a week in Horsham as well and i am told there is no rebate, I am not too fussed, a rebate would be nice but as long as he gets the snip I am happy (Iwouldn't have been after $490 out of pocket)
Well maybe this post will come in handy for other Vic's now that there is some info.
    Thanks everyone for your help!

I wonder if they claim the medicare for you Sarah, so in otherwords the fee is say $240 but youre only paying $150 as theyll claim the rest from medicare. I have a friend who's ultrasound place does that. But yeh either way as long as theyre done and happy thats all that matters

When I called up this doctors office in Warraknabeal(sp) I was told I get a rebate of $35 but in Horsham I don't. Maybe when I have my consultation with him I will ask what the deal is, but yeah I am not too fussed. I am just thankful to avoid the $490.

Oh if you get it done in hospital you do NOT get a rebate...

It has to be outpatients to get a rebate...
